New Orleans PD shot contractors - not thugs - on bridge

Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.

Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.

They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.

None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.

The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

No other details were immediately available.

I didn't think they would've shot at contractors; they would know who's who. In fact, I bet the contractors wear orange vests or something to identify them.

That would be a good idea (I hadn't thought of that...wearing orange vests)...and it wouldn't make sense to just shoot a people walking...well, at least not by those who are in Law Enforcement.

Well. I hope the latest spin on the story is the truth. But it sure has been fascinating reading the different takes from different folk with each spin of the story! You know we're all guilty with our appetite for instant news in creating the demand that ends in these things being misreported.... That observation aside - I'm still glued to all news sources here!
