New Orleans PD shot contractors - not thugs - on bridge
Mod point of clarification: The first 100 or so replies below were posted in reaction to reports that the contractors had been fatally shot.
Mod Update
The Associated Press
Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.
Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.
Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.
They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.
None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.
The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.
No other details were immediately available.

Why was the other thread pulled completely instead of being re-titled ??
If every thread with a few idiotic comments in it was yanked, there'd be precious little in the database.

Maybe the AP was salivating for a Bush Bash....forgot to check facts.

I told people to be careful carrying in NO
I knew there was a very good chance that the authorities would shoot at law abiding citizens who are carrying as well the criminal who are carrying.
FNC is now reporting that the Army Corp of engineers havent been shot. They are saying only bad guys were shot

Reporting is sure rotten on this one. Note to reporters: get facts first, then report.

I have one problem with how this story is being reported...
If they were contractors with the corps of engineers they should not have been armed their corps escorts should have been the one that were armed.
I also have only seen fnc and others reported as 6 armed men..no other info...except for this ap report stating that it was contractors...
I also belive that it would be hard for them to know so quick any accurate info.

Clarification - FoxNews reporting contractors NOT KILLED after all. Instead, the guys who were shooting at the contractors were shot by NO police. Boy, what a turnaround in events. Let's all calm down until all the facts are in.
Boy, I sure hope this is true. I was just so upset thinking about the good guys getting killed by the NOPD.

How are they going to spin this so that it is Bush's fault?Let me try ................... OK, I got it ---
They're employees of the Army Corps of Engineers, so they're working for the Feds, making them directly under Bush's control. What on earth was GWB thinking when he ordered these men into the middle of a free fire zone?
