The NHC graphic showing a NOLA hit 3 days prior might help make your point too.

I thought lots of folks didn't think busing was a good idea, but I never thought it was in this context!

CFC__VRWC made this post: The mods just pulled a thread and linked over to this one. The "Mayor" is apparently now saying that he couldn't use the school buses because ....they couldn't take all those people to Texas in a bus without bathrooms!

The thread with the original link (source) may have been pulled by a Mod, not sure, maybe CFC__VRWC knows more.

I'm still looking..

But did he have time to get his mountain bike there and back before anyone noticed?

That's why he sent Karl Rove to do it.

"Why, what's the deal, is everyone in Baton Rouge blaming the Feds for their local politicians incompetence?"

Could be it's because the Times-Picayune isn't being published...

Here are most of the facts you need for your ad. Use as you choose. "Breathtaking Ignorance at the Washington Post (New Orleans flooding)" found here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1476460/posts Note especially the Plan for Evacuation prepared in 2000 by Louisiana that called for the use of buses to remove people who lacked access to private transportation.

Here's the possible headline: "Here are Mayor Nagin's Buses that Could Have Saved the Lives of his Constituents"

Possible copy: "Mayor Nagin, before you took off for high ground in Baton Rouge, why didn't you order these buses to evacuate the poor people from New Orleans? Why did you leave the buses to be flooded, and the people to die?"

Keep me posted on your project, which I think is excellent. Let me know if I can be of any additional help. Here's my e-mail: John_Armor@aya.yale.edu (Decades ago I was a copywriter, and won a few Gold Medals in the NY Art Directors Show for my work.)

I hope you succeed in your project.

FWIW, I think capacity is 66 people, but I don't know if that's kids or adults. Certainly thousands could've been bussed to safety if Nagin and Blanco had extracted their heads from their backsides.

Don't forget to mention in the ad, that Mayor Nagin disregarded or forgot his own hurricane evacuation plan. The city leaders had at least two full days to use these hundreds of buses to evac the poor, exactly as their own emergency management plan called for.

Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000.

Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states:

5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.

Further proposed copy: "To quote the movie director, Spike Lee, why didn't you send police cars with loudspeakers into the streets to tell your citizens, 'If you don't want to die, GET ON THE BUS"?

Nagin was quoted in that local radio interview -- replayed on CNN and other networks -- that there had been a proposal to use school buses. "School buses!" he ranted with disdain, "School buses! Where are the Greyhounds? Why isn't every bus company coming here to rescue these people."

From CNN

NAGIN: I need reinforcements, I need troops, man. I need 500 buses, man. We ain't talking about -- you know, one of the briefings we had, they were talking about getting public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people out here.

Ive heard the number of 500 NOLA buses not being used, that would be 33,000 capacity.
