Mississippians' suffering overshadowed

JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi hurricane survivors looked around Saturday and wondered just how long it would take to get food, clean water and shelter. And they were more than angry at the federal government and the national news media.

Richard Gibbs was disgusted by reports of looting in New Orleans and upset at the lack of attention hurricane victims in his state were getting.

"I say burn the bridges and let 'em all rot there," he said. "We're suffering over here too, but we're not killing each other. We've got to help each other. We need gas and food and water and medical supplies."

As a MS native and resident up until 10 years ago, I am disgusted with the NO coverage 24/7. These towns in MS (Waveland, Pass, etc.) are getting spotty coverage at best and most are completely wiped out.

If the looting and burning weren't such a sensational story...we'd see more of the courage and devastation in MS.

BTW, there are blacks in MS too. They are hurting as well. There are Vietnamese in MS...they are hurting. There are women with babies and old people from nursing homes and dead floating in the water and left on the side of the road. There is just no where to put the dead right now.

Barbour handled this situation as well as anyone and no one is saying a word.

I hate to say this ... I honestly believe MS is being covered less due to the higher percentage of displaced citizens who happen to be white.

It just doesn't blend in with the debate the media wants the country to have about the reasons of "why".

It's sad, but it looks like the screwups did one thing for new orleans - it made them the center of attention for this disaster.

I agree 100%, the gimmee crowd in N.O. with the help of the drama queens called "newscasters" have been the only stories told and graphics shown. Talk about MEDIA BIAS! The dem lib crowd is apparently more interesting so they ignore our southern red state folks. I have been livid about that not to mention Perry taking in only N.O. people.

predictable behavior by the MSM.

NO is a more "dramatic" story, what with the flooding, the broken levees, the city slowly filling with water.

it annoys me, too.

That's because MS has a competent government and more self-reliant citizens.

Trent Lott was just on FNC - he said the media may well be focused only on NO, but FEMA and relief efforts are moving OK into MS.

exactamundo!!!

..but it has to...no..it MUST BE said
Watch over the next few weeks how people who refuse to leave are treated? Where's Jessie?..where's Sharpton? to try to convince these people that staying surrounded by diseased carrying water is going to kill you?
Naaaahhh...that would be the sensible thing to do...but it's so much easier to BLAME someone. Another example of "leadership"

I agree. The MSM has a weaker attack line over whites being saved.

In both States, no comment is being made about the race of the rescuers.

Hmmmmm!

As a Floridian who has seen a hurricane or two, I agree with you 100%. In fact the huricane actually missed New Orleans and I recall seeing the Governor and the Mayor saying as much a week ago on television.

The reason that Mississippi, Alabama and to a much lesser degree, Florida are not getting MSM coverage is because they have responsible state and local governments that are working hand in hand with federal government agencies. Louisiana, on the other hand has an incompetent, political hack Governor who can't find her way to the bathroom, no less govern the state, and New Orleans has a Mayor that borders on being a moron and Police Department that makes the Keystone cops look good. Since these folks are all Democrat vermin, the MSM is doing all they can to lay the blame at the feet of GW Bush. Fact is: GW Bush is the best friend, Blacks in Louisiana have. The Democrat Party, The Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP have failed black people miserably. All these POS do is bitch and moan, but no concrete, widespread, positve, measurable action is forthcoming. End of story!!!

Agreed. For the liberal media, it has never been about reporting the true but rather about pushing their political agenda.

I have been discussing this with my wife. We wondered if there was even damage in the other states because of the media coverage. Seems the only damage outside NO was Lotts house according to the press.

Perhaps the black and white suffering in MS simply doesn't further the impetus to get the US to socialism faster the way the LA sensationallism does.

In fact the MS hardships were handled well because they were implemented by people with brains and the American spirit rather than vacant heads and dependence on the plantation system.

The MSM and the lefties is portraying this disaster to the world as 100% negative. I have not heard one positive aspect of the rescue efforts.

All I hear is that in NO the victims are overwhelmingly Black, not one bloody fricken comment that the rescuers risking their lives making superhuman efforts to save the Blacks are, "OVER WHELMINGLY WHITE."

There is absolutely nothing that can be done will which ever satisfy the lefty haters. I am past being disgusted and angry, I am developing an implacable hatred for these bastards.

Maybe Sen. Lott's appearances on tv this morning will help. His 150 yo old was destroyed. He told FOX that Sen Kerry and TerAYZA will be sending a jet down with diapers, food, etc for his neighbors. You know the media WILL cover Kerry!

The answer here is obvious, both Mississippi and Alabama have competent governors and well prepared and executed emergency plans.

Consider this -- Florida had 4 major hurricanes hit last year, if there was ever a time where planning came though it was then. So the nonsense coming from the leftist-MSM is just that, so much nonsense.

LA and N.O. had emergency plans as well, they read like a laundry list of what should have been done.

Bush Derangement Syndrome can get people killed.
