Poll: Bush Not Taking Brunt of Katrina Criticism
ABC NEWS ^ | 09/04/05 | GARY LANGER

Sept. 4, 2005 — Americans are broadly critical of government preparedness in the Hurricane Katrina disaster — but far fewer take George W. Bush personally to task for the problems, and public anger about the response is less widespread than some critics would suggest.

Sampling, data collection and tabulation for this poll were done by TNS.

In an event that clearly has gripped the nation — 91 percent of Americans are paying close attention — hopefulness far outweighs discontent about the slow-starting rescue. And as in so many politically charged issues in this country, partisanship holds great sway in views of the president's performance.

The most critical views cross jurisdictions: Two-thirds in this ABC News/Washington Post poll say the federal government should have been better prepared to deal with a storm this size, and three-quarters say state and local governments in the affected areas likewise were insufficiently prepared.

”discontent about the slow-starting rescue”

Liberal Propaganda. While rescuers were saving those on roof tops, the press is blaming BUSH because of the loud mouth animals at the Super Dome, who were in no immediate danger. .

Plus the race baiters have a very small opportunity to scream "racism," in fact, I think that opportunity is past.

You have and will see TV shots of white people helping and caring for black people, and the racism garbage will go right out the window.

It must really frustrate them that there are still Americans who can't be bamboozled every time they rig the news.

I hope this will help put a lid on all the "Fight Back" garbage I have been reading on FR lately. As another poster said, Americans are not stupid(unless they support Liberals). Bush and his team are doing exactly the right thing by NOT defending themselves. You don't defend yourself, unless you think you need to.

I waded thru the sewer at DU and posted the "Mayor" and "Gov" should be held responsible. Funny thing happened, was banned and message deleted in 30 secs. Now off to shower the filth from that cesspool.(DU)

Less than seven days after the Hurricane passed and six days after the levees failed the federal government, the military, private citizens/organizations and The "Red" states, mainly in the South, have overwhelmingly responded to the needs and support of the citizens of New Orleans. The state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans did absolutely zilch to aid in this tragedy, thanks to Democrats Kathleeen Blanco and Mayor Nagin of New Orleans. The left-wing rants and raves, and the uselessness of the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus has not fooled anyone in America. The American people get it. I just hope that someday, Black people will see how really badly they have had by supporting the Democrat Party and their own Black leadership who does not give a damn about them. If you do not believe this, just take a good hard look where the support and the dollars are coming from to give these people security and a chance to rebuild their tattered lives. Certainly, the only thing coming from the Democrat Party, the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus is whining and bitching, but no significant cash or property is forthcoming whatsoever. Black America should be ashamed that they have supported these POS!!!

The Dems can not multi-task, try to destroy John Roberts, blame Bush for the hurricane, AND try to get Sandra Day O'Connor as Chief Justice.

It must frustrate them that the biased news coverage on CBS, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, CNBC, CNNHN and so on has limited impact because it has limited audience.

Bush's job approval was lower during Cindy Sheehan coverage.

How many Hurricane victims will be given food, water, shelter and counseling at Camp Casey?

Buried the nut, the MSM rodents did. The nut is that a lot MORE thought the local government failed. These MSM trickster mouth-foamers crafted this sentence to make it look as if the Federales were more at fault.

Anyone who would specifically criticize President Bush for anything having to do with Katrina is only trying to gain political ground.

It is impossible for any President of the United States to micro manage all federal organizations and departments. It also was not the place of the President or the federal government to have evacuation or disaster plans in place for the city of New Orleans. It is not the responsibility of the federal government or the Executive Branch to make sure New Orleans is safe from any unforeseen disaster or Act of God. It is not the responsibility of the President to stop people from looting, raping, killing, burning, and pillaging the city of New Orleans. Those responsibilities were granted to local leaders by the voters.

That being said, it is also important to realize that people were told to evacuate the city, and many chose to stay in their homes.

People crying about the federal government's part in this are those who only want the nanny state to become larger.
