It wasn't FEMA. It was the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Here's Proof

I read it. Man! It's a friggn', cryn' shame.

sometimes situations require a "damn the lawyers and do the right thing" response.

An interesting contrast to me is the mayor worrying about legal stuff before the hurricane but then expecting the feds to break laws after the hurricane to send troops in. Hypocrisy.

I just read a lot of that EOP that deals with hurricanes. The state of LA's government blew it big time. Everything is outlined right there. That link should be a seperate thread, if someone has the time.

The Mayor was pleading for the people to evacuate, while the attorneys were checking the legalities of a mandatory evacuation order.

see #103 this thread.

The Governor and the head of any political unit in LA has the statutory authority to order an evacuation, as per the NOLA city website Emergency Plan.

More to the point, the city of New Orleans emergency Plan says the MAYOR is responsible for deciding and ordering an evacuation. The word "order" implies mandatory compliance; that's why it's called an "evacuation order" instead of "evacuation advisory," or "recommendation," or "suggestion," or "request."

The legality issue is either completely bogus, or else the Mayor wasn't even following his own administraton's Emergency Plan as a CAT 5 hurricane bore down on the city. In either case, he's an incompetent, malfeseant moron who is responsible for getting people killed.

.....Can this guy be removed from power....

Katrina pretty well did that.

He is a mayor without a city.

The City of New Orleans as we knew it is dead. Nagin is Mayor of nothing.

I suggest the creation of the Orleans Military Recovery and Reconstruction District to include everything from St. Tammany Parish south to Plaquemines and as far west as is needed. I suggest Gen. Honore being put in charge of the new District and Sherriff Harry Lee being put in charge of a sub-command of Jefferson, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes. I'm sure there are other better ideas, but those are my best ideas for the problems at hand.

''I could never sleep if I felt like I didn't do everything that I could to impress upon people the gravity of the situation,'' Mayfield said.

Wonder if Nagin has trouble sleeping.

If this report is accurate, Nagin should be charged with one count of 1st degree murder for every person found dead in NO. The Gov should be charged as an accessory.

Haha!

So, contrary to the perception the Leftist news media is trying to promote, the idiot liberal had to be called at home by the feds so they could tell him to get everyone out.

Maybe someone should notify the major networks. Are they too busy playing the race card to focus on the fact that Nagin was in his jammies when a hurricane was about to level his beloved city?

You ain't heard nutin' yet till you hear the "McLaughlin Group". They make CNN look like right wing neo-cons.

Pat Buchanan opens up with the biggest Bush Bash I've heard yet...he even exceeds the spew by Cummings, the Maryland race baiter.

With Eleanor Cliff screeching in the background trying to interceed with her digs, it's beyond pure Bush bashing. Had to leave it, don't have the stomach for this many lies piled on top of each other.

Someone sell a clue to Mayor Moron; the people will be more likely to sue you for the dead from their families that resulted because you were too stupid to evacuate them!
