FOXNEWS: Mayor Nagin intervened to help tourists escape New Orleans before people in Superdome
Fox News - O'Reilly | September 2, 2005 | nwrep

Posted on 09/02/2005 8:44:35 PM PDT by nwrep

Shepard Smith eyewitness report on O'Reilly: Mayor Ray Nagin intervened today to help tourists (many foreigners) staying at the upscale W hotel downtown escape New Orleans ahead of many of the people in the Superdomw. Tourists were shipped in buses to the Superdome and other connecting buses took them to safety.

Black Mayor Ray Nagin favors "W" tourists. Imagine that headline after all the racist garbage thrown at the President.

The adults have been in charge in Mississippi - they didn't allow their state to turn into Mogadishu on the Big Muddy. Therefore no horror stories to attack Bush with, so nothing happened there.

Hundreds of square miles of Mississippi were devastated by the storm surge. In terms of absolute amount of damage, MS did a lot worse than NOLA. But it's NOLA that's turning into a remake of the Lord of the Flies

Most of the New Orleans underclass, if they were not welfare recipients or low level government employees, worked in the hotels and other tourist related businesses. At a minimum, that industry is dead for the foreseeable future. In any case, most of the housing in that city is uninhabitable and will likely be razed. The underclass will likely settle in Baton Rouge, Houston, Memphis, and other places. The middle class faces a similar problem. They have nothing to go back to, for the most part, and will probably do the same as their lower income counterparts. Savings and credit card lines will only go so far, and they will receive less assistance from the Feds. Expect them to land in suburban places like The Woodlands outside of Houston, Plano outside of Dallas, or Cobb County near Atlanta.

Sans New Orleans, Louisiana will become almost as conservative as Mississippi and Alabama. The state will be in the Republican column for the next decade at least on both state and Federal levels. Neither Mayor Nagin nor Governor Blanco have any future in politics.

I had to turn the channel last night when Shep and Geraldo stood there crying their eyes out like sissies. I never thought I'd have to turn off Fox the way I turn off CNN....as quickly as possible. Shep has seen a lot more than any of us have seen in relation to the suffering. I give him a pass. However, Geraldo just got there yesterday and was acting as if he had been there from the beginning. He took a frightened 15 month old child and proceeded to scare the living daylights out of the child by screaming in its face on TV. Geraldo is a POS.

They just want to know why the federal government, after 9/11, isn't prepared to handle the next 9/11 (one Mother Nature-created). Like I said in an earlier post. The focus here at FR is what Nagin should have done before it happened. People don't care about that. Seriously. They only care about the here and now of dealing with the aftermath of Katrina, and they think it's Bush's job to make sure this mess gets cleaned up. They think it's above everyone else's pay grade, so to speak.

This isn't about Bush predicting a hurricane. It's about emergency response after a cataclysmic event. They have seen all these movies like Deep Impact or whatever where the US is hit by some horrible event and the President has everything under control, solution in hand.

"They would gladly vote him in again and all the Democrats because the whole disaster was the President's fault. Their mayor and their supposed leaders told them so."

Unfortunately, you got that right!
There was an older black woman on Greta last night inside the Astro Dome. She said, "George W Bush will Never get my vote". Then whipping her glasses off, she continued, " Look at me, Look at me GOOD."

Someone should tell her she doesn't have to worry about voting for GWB as he's not running again. I suspect she hasn't voted for him or any other Pubbie in the past anyway.

Has anyone heard if the CANNABILISM reported Friday by Randall Robertson, liberal black activist and president of Transafrica, is true?

...including murders, rapes and stabbings.

Maybe the mayor just wanted to get the foreign "witnesses" out.

WHat is classism?

If by that you mean treating the "rich" differently, you are probably wrong. People form NO may have some support from relatives and neighbors. If you are tourist, you have nothing, whether you are "rich" or poor.

It's a biblical admonition to take care of the strangers, widows and orphans in your midst.

The people there knew they could walk out. They wanted to know the best direction to go--There was no communication between Nagin and the police, that I could see. Information was what they wanted.

I happened to think Shep did a very good job. Although, he's enough of a smartypants that it was evident when his glib wore off.

You might have checked out some of the other coverage, which was making excuses for Blanco and Nagin from the start. As soon as I heard that, I knew who had dropped the ball.

I don't really see anything wrong in moving tourists out first, especially in a town that had relied on its tourists for its revenue.

I agree, but the reason is even simpler: unlike the locals, tourists have no community and systems of support; they cannot band together because they don't even know each other.

They don't look more helpless (hotels and all), but they are.

This is the one thing the Mayor did right and now he's receiving flak about it. The publicity around the world this is receiving is humiliating enough. Can you imagine if he HADN'T got those tourists out and they had been gang-raped and murdered?

Shep is a twit playing to the crowd, hoping it will keep him from getting beat with a lead pipe.

You didn't see the piece where Shep was imploring a lone single policeman to help THESE people. Shep was disgusting!
