There was a guy on with Aaron Brown tonight who actually worked on this commission about the levees.
He said that if Bush had given them $100,000,000 the day he took office, it STILL would not have changed one damn thing.
In fact, the levees that breached were NOT even the ones that the people in NO claimed needed fixing.
So, it's you writing that in all the bathroom stalls!
To emphasize the correctness in saying that politics will make big decisions like this, recall this HISTORICAL FACT!
In 1998, the DoD and the US Army Corps of Engineers drafted a document detailing the fact that New Orleans was protected by levees which were designed to protect N.O. from a LEVEL 3 hurricane. These groups wanted to go into N.O. and assess what needed to be done to improve the levees to at least withstand a LEVEL 4 OR 5 hurricane.
This serious request and supporting information was deemed highly necessary to protect N.O. and was presented in full to the President of the United States for approval of this critical project.
THE REQUEST WAS DENIED BY WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON. For those interested in the details, they are available in the FEDERAL REGISTER as a matter of permanent record.
So, how many more deaths do we attribute to this horrid excuse for a criminal, negligent, incompetent excuse for a human being ???
In summary, politics in critical situations, usually costs lives, it always has.
LOL.
Was that the guy talking to Aaron Brown?
I've only heard Col. Hunt (On O'Reilly) say that the Gov. of La. NEVER 'pulled the trigger' to request Fed. assistance. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the Gov. of any State have to request help in order receive Fed. help? From what I understand, NG troops from one State cannot enter another State without being requested by said state's Gov. Correct? If what I've heard from Col. Hunt is correct, how can the MSM continue to critize the President and his response time. This is really bothering me and if anyone can set me straight I'd appreciate it.
Says it all.
Wonder what would have happened if the pubbie had one.
After all his family had seen a few of these up close and personal in India.
What most people fail to realize a Typhoon can put a hurricane to shame.
ROFLMAO..........I really, really needed that laugh today!
No surprise there. They've been desperate for an issue to run on for a long time. And they always want power.
Quick work. You are adept at locating information! Thanks.
Yes. The Gov. is in CHARGE of the NGB, as they are technically STATE employees, but under military command structure. Governors invite other states' units in as well, ususally in joint exercises, if you'll recall.
Go back. Remember places like Kent State in Ohio. Rhoades in Ohio called out the National Guard.....NOT the Pres.
So, while military units are activated and commanded under national structure, the civilian command of the state for the NGB rules deployment.
Clymer, the guy Bush called a "major league a-hole" in 2000.
Cheney replied, "Big Time!"
"technically STATE employees"
Check that. Too fast on my facts there. We were talking about that today........
Here's some more help:

Interesting that the study just covers the Bush administration and nothing before. The annual $3 to $5 million is chicken feed. Anyone who understands the federal budget process knows that a US agency rarely receives what it requests. OMB reduces it and then Congress adds to it, especially quasi-pork projects like this one. It would be interesting to track the total funding for the NO levee system over the past decade or so. I suspect that this has been an ongoing project for more than 20 years.
If the Senators or congress persons from NO asked for money they would have got it. The President did not veto anything.
So did they? I do not know. They know better than anyone what their state needs.
