~ Canteen Music Dedication ~

Online Entertainment For Our Troops!

Music Theme: Canteener Music Playlists and more music!

Notes: Please ping laurenmarlowe to all requests on the thread and via FReepmail!

Thank you to LUV W, Jack Deth, Esmeralda, and TheMom for sharing some of their favorite songs with our Troops, Veterans, and their families. We hope you enjoy the diversity of musical selections.

Canteener Playlist: LUV W

What was the first song you remember hearing on the radio?
1.A song called "Sentimental Journey" by Doris Day that I would sing along with and made my Mom cry as she was taking my Dad back to the train station when he was going into the Army.

Born Ruth Weston, Ruth Brown received her early music instruction from her father, a singer and choir director at Portsmouth, Virginia’s Emmanuel AME Church, where Ruth sang in the junior choir.

She grew up in a home where only religious music was allowed, but as a teenager she nonetheless enjoyed the contemporary tunes of her generation, including songs by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters. Brown performed some of these locally at the USO and later took first prize at New York’s Apollo Theater’s amateur night with her rendition of “It Could Happen to You.”

Brown’s professional career began in 1948. The following year, she was signed by Atlantic records and moved to New York, where she recorded more than 80 songs over the next 12 years. Many of those songs went to the top of the charts.

We're honored you have shared your family with all of us.

When we were in Crawford last weekend, I rejoined our little group after directing the caravan into the parking lot. I was very excited and animated about what a thrill that was. Once I shut up & sat down, there was a lovely lady near us that said to me "You look familiar". I asked her if she was in the caravan, to which she replied she was. I said I was directing traffic, grinning and waving like a fool - that must be why I look familiar. She said, "No, I know you from somewhere else". At which time I said, "My name is Donna Eaker", she asked if I was related to Eaker. To which I replied, yeah that's my husband - he is right there (pointing to Eaker). Then this lovely lady introduced herself as laurenmarlowe! She recognized me from the pic's of TheGirl's birthday party cake fight.

I was so excited about all the goings on I did not spend anytime with her . . . which I truly regret.

DJ SUNSHINE! If you would like to be added/removed from the Canteen Music Ping List, please FReepmail MoJo2001 or Kathy In Alaska. This is a HIGH VOLUME PING LIST!!

Axel F - Crazy Frog

Comments: I'm not sure which is more disturbing ... this song
or the flash video I've seen that was made with it.
But what the heck. When you're the newest DJ and MoJo says
"play this", I sit back and smile. Okay for kids and Ma (if she likes techno).

Now, just a friendly reminder to support the artists you hear in the Canteen - and please ping laurenmarlowe to any requests made on the thread. Thanks!
