Did you hear the phone call just on MSNBC from the lady who was just rescued today from Slidell?

It was very disturbing. (At least it will be for a lot of people when we start hearing MORE of these stories.)

The people banned together, went to a mall, lived out of the food court, formed a "semi-government/town," had rules, policed themselves. Saved themselves.

Quite unlike what happened in the SuperDome/Convention Center.

Is it just me being curious by nature, or does anyone else find it somewhat 'suspicious' that all these fires are breaking out around NO over the past day or so? I can understand 1 here or there (downed lines, gas leaks, chemicals, etc.), but it seems like there have been quite a few all of a sudden. The one earlier was supposedly at a Saks 5th Ave warehouse.

Doesn't sound disturbing to me actually, sounds like true American spirit where they aren't just going to sit around expecting someone to save them. They brought order to chaos and saved themselves. I'd think of putting any of these people up for Gov or Mayor actually, they clearly had more sense.

Have had a copy of "Alas, Babylon" since I first read it in the early 70s. Of course, the book involves "nukes"; but the fallout of what happens to civilizations is right on target with what has happened in NO.

The group establishing itself in the Mall is the smallest representative picture of how the US Government and all its branches work, in the large.

How, exactly, is that disturbing? It's *exactly* what you're supposed to do when civilization fails. Fall back, band together, create a set of rules, help each other, rebuild/escape/whatever.

Oh, wait, it's disturbing because these people actually did for themselves, and the idiot LibDems don't want anyone doing that, right?
