President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.
The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.
The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.
Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Tropical Storm 12
Before the flood waters started rising, the Salvation Army had trucks there handing out food. One of the FOX reporters mentioned the "Baptist Men" being there Monday afternoon as the storm was still blowing by. Salvation Army were handing out sandwiches and water when people landed at the freeway after being rescued from rooftops. Red Cross vehicles were shown stranded in the flood waters along with residents' vehicles. Organizations were on the ground and helping since Day One, but they just haven't been able to help quickly or vastly enough (and apparently not to the tastes of the evacuees -- "I haven't had a hot meal in three days.")
Fox should pull both of these hysterical "reporters". They are doing nothing but stirring up the people around them!
The hundreds of people are still on I-10 .. for days.
Geraldo: I want everyone in the world to see 6 days after Katrina .. 10 month baby .. look in the face of the baby .. this is it .. no sugar coating .. no spin .. let them go and walk over this damn interstate and let them out of here. He's furious.
Anything important happen the last 3 hours?
Oh God, Geraldo just invoked "Let them Go!"
Let those people go.
hey look, this is what it takes sometimes.
some of you folks may not know that the story that put Geraldo pn the map was his time as a NYC reporter when he broke into a childrens mental hospital, Willowbrook, with hidden cameras to show what was going on there. it was a major scandal, horrible conditions.
FNC better move those two guys outta there. Both of them are about to break.
Actually, I could believe it (although I have no info). As I understand it, there's only one road in/out of NO. It is easy to imagine police deciding to clear the roads of foot traffic so the convoys could go back and forth. It would be infuriating to be trapped that way, but I could easily see how it might happen.
AMEN!
Whorealdo can't count. And also, he said he just left NY yesterday. I can't imagine what he's going to be like in another 24 hours.
Only to let Geraldo lose it!
We beat Dan Rather with his own lies. The lies of the MSM and the Leftist losers will NOT prevail -- not as long as there are outlets like FR to ensure the truth gets out!
Good for you.
Shep couldn't even answer the most basic questions.
For sure! It won't be complete until the Mau-Mau terrorists start shooting on cue.
Warning... note sarcasm, Gentle Readers

This is just unseemly.
The press is not going to the places where people are coping.
But I will tell you something that really surprised me: my biggest liberal friend called me tonight and SHE is furious about the coverage; she is not buying this.
And she worked at Job Corps.
This isn't playing well in middle America.
Oh I see a state income tax for the future of Texas.
I don't know. It seems some of that is Geraldo inducing his own hysteria in some sense. It kind of seemed partly fake.
Maybe that is the real Geraldo in freak out mode.
Yes, but their hysteria is ridiculous.
The fact of the matter is that if they let them go we'll have 30,000 people unsupervised causing who knows what damage. NOT good. And the fact is that they chose not to evacuate, we can only get so many out at a time and Shep and geraldo have NO perspective here.
I do think it's helpful for FOX to demand evacuations at the center, but Shep and geraldo need to be pulled.
