President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

"I just put it on and watched Anderson Cooper interview a family in Mississippi, who bashed Bush because they had no help in their state....that "ALL the national guard were in Iraq."

Standard talking points robotted by those led into the clueless-ness by Lib-Dems.... tsk tsk.

Don't let your blood pressure rise, stupidity has a way of sinking, and of sinking itself. Every time it is tried.

A hurricane survivor pours water on herself after being given food and water supplies by the U.S. National Guard at the New Orleans Convention Center September 2, 2005. After five days of surviving Hurricane Katrina, the heat, shootings and other unrest, thousands at the Convention Center were given food and water.

How many Freepers bought Geraldo's performance???

I am getting to that point and almost everyone I know, with no ties to the south, feel the same way. The media is single handedly destroying a lot of good will with their political bashing and efforts to make this about race. It's, at this point, another Democrat Wellstone moment and there are going to be a lot of people of good will driven to indifference.

I happened to fly home today from a business trip to Mexico City and on the flight to Atlanta we flew past New Orleans and Biloxi / Gulfport / Mobile. I didn't get a good look at NO but the Mississippi coast looked bad even from altitude -- very few vehicles, for one thing.

I say F--- the Lamestream media and the Sharptons and Jacksons. They will provide no help. As usual, our GREAT President keeps his head, does the right thing and acts like a responsible leader in a crisis. The carpers, as usual, make things worse. So what? Americans will respond to this disaster as we always do -- with support, determination and resolution.

I admire hugely those who have responded positively -- the chopper pilots, bus drivers, Governor Perry, doctors and nurses in N.O., and those who send help. The victims who are suffering -- I won't attack them, they are in dire straits. The criminals need to be dealt with -- and the troops will do that.

But the Lamestream Media and race-baiters --- I spit on them.

"When Mr Bush visits New Orleans, he may have to answer increasing criticism that his Administration took money from a program to reinforce the levee banks to fund the war on Iraq.

The former head of the US Army Corps of Engineers, the agency that handles the infrastructure of the nation's waterways, said the damage in New Orleans probably would have been much less extensive had flood-control efforts been fully funded."

That's the part of the article that got to me.

" OReilly and Hunt "

Col Hunt, after his investigation :

Gov Blanco had her Louisiana National Guard troops and assests prepositioned-but, did not pull the trigger.
President Bush should have realized the collapse of state govt ( my words ) and federalized troops.
Legal considerations here, but, that could have been overcome.
Louisiana National Guard were staged 30 miles north of NO- Governor had no eyes on the ground, no communication in NO to assess the situation-people not evacing, levees breaking, etc.
Everyone had 5 days notice storm was coming at state level and no prep was done.
Blame falls on Gov Blanco, Gov Blanco, Gov Blanco and secondarily -President Bush for trusting that Democrat Governor Blanco had situation in hand.

You guys gotta understand Geraldo BOR and FOx. They are setting up the stage for the big rescue. He is creating drama not to incite a riot but to make Fox the hero.

I dont know who is paying for the buses by BOR clearly was setting this up by listening to what people needed ...and then they are saved because of his program.

Just happened with Charity Hospital.

to be fair, he was talking about the evacuation. he didn't say people were starving. but people are sick there, and that chopper team brough a triage unit in for medical needs.
