President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Of COURSE he is! He and Rev. Sharpton are going to run themselves ragged trying to track down all these people and convince them that HE is the one who saved them... gotta keep those democratic votes at all costs. They will most likely keep the names on the voter rolls and have someone vote for them in '06 and '08 -- even if they are all still living in Texas, Utah, Minnesota, Mass.. etc.

He wants folks to have the right for reunification and a right to jobs and training. He wants to have them near NO. No doubt a political motivation.

He says "we" are going to be reconstructing the city. The people in other states not willing to accept folks from NO. What a hack!

Yes, they announced that Geraldo rescued Floritta Greve, the 71-year-old lady who phoned in to Fox.

YES! In PA you are not allowed to have more than $2000 in combined assets. This includes life insurance, savings/checking accounts of all adults AND children in the household. They can even make you sell your vehicle if it is worth more than $2000.

Therefore, people learn to spend everything that comes in because they have no reason not to, and never learn to save money by purchasing food they cook themselves or shopping at cheaper stores because they have no reason to do so.

You know if it wasn't for that little lady Geraldo just rescued, I'd say leave that whole state to the crooks, Jackson and Sharpton and give it back to the French and then spend our money on fixing Mississippi, Alabama and Florida....

Not true. (in most cases). Some people save money in a jar instead of a bank.Father left the family so that he could work and save the money to get his family off welfare but had he tried to do so while in the home they never would have made it. That same father saved enough to buy a house which that family will be moving into soon. And BTW you are allowed to stockpile food. I personally do anyway. Ever hear of Save-a Lot foods? It's my favorite store ;)

I made two offers for Floritta via Fox. One, a cash gift to help support her wherever they put her and two, an offer to put her up in my home in Miami. She's a survivor...she knew what to do in preparation and she did it. She took responsibility for herself (and her dog) and that's a good thing. She doesn't have any family left and neither do I. I hope Fox gets the message through. If they do, I don't know what offer she'll choose. I'll let you all know.

Here's a sad story from a current AP article:

'In New Orleans' Garden District, a woman's body lay at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Magazine Street — a business area with antique shops on the edge of blighted housing. The body had been there since at least Wednesday. As days passed, people covered the corpse with blankets or plastic.

By Sunday, a short wall of bricks had been built around the body, holding down a plastic tarpaulin. On it, someone had spray-painted a cross and the words, "Here lies Vera. God help us." '

My contempt for Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton (I will NOT call them reverends) grows exponentially every second I see their faces on TV complaining that this or that wasn't done right. How much have they sent to the relief effort? Where were they when their people were being pulled off of rooftops and out of the water? Note how they never show up until AFTER the danger is over. Does anyone see any of them assisting the sick and ailing? Nope - just there for the photo op.

I was sickened by Sharpton's demand on TV this morning that the victims should each have a funeral in New Orleans. If that's the case then he and Jesse, Mayor Nagin and Gov. Blanco and the members of the Levee boards should personally have to dig the graves.

The grandstanding by the poverty pimps is disgusting.

OK, let's all be happy for Geraldo. It was a good thing he rescued Floritta and Dusty...a very good thing.

But he really needed to settle down after this week, and maybe now that he's saved someone he will..(and I'm not being a smartalek..:)

Only someone living under a rock didn't see the army running evacuations all day yesterday. Not a sign of JJ there; Geraldo, yes, JJ, no.

Something else from the same article:

'Amid the tragedy, about two dozen people gathered in the French Quarter for the Decadence Parade, an annual Labor Day gay celebration. Matt Menold, 23, a street musician wearing a sombrero and a guitar slung over his back, said: "It's New Orleans, man. We're going to celebrate."'

Major Cunningham with Salvation Army in New Orleans related a story on Fox about a little boy who walked up to him with a jar of pennies and said his home was destroyed but he wanted to give him the pennies to help other people because he loved Jesus. He said the spirit of America lives on.

Maybe it's time for the IRS to finally take a HARD look at JJ.... O'Reilly has been pushing for that for a long, long time... up to now JJ has walked a pretty wide berth around President Bush, now if he gets in his face maybe that will change. Same with the Landrieu's, too..
