Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

Oh I think it's birkenstocks. Whatever.
Mary had to have a run off I think. weeks later.
I think that everyone in America should demand an accounting and a roadmap of what officials that are responsible in National Disasters are to do and when they are to do it. All the credentials of these officials should be scrutinized because these are lives that may be lost if they are not ready for prime time. We should be able to know if the Gov of our State will ask for help and will call for Martial law and call out the Guard. We must know if our county officials know what they are doing, have major plans and are going through regular drills etc. Clearly the leadership in the entire State of LA was not up to the job and probably incompetent. I know in my State and my County and City or Town are ready because we have been tested, time after time.
"Word is he told Blanco and Nagin to shut up."
Verrrrry innnnterestingggg. I suspect they relayed that to the Klintoons and/or the DNC and that may be why Witt is in there all of a sudden. Just a wild speculation on my part, but with these sneaky, slimey jerks, nothing would surprise me.
Oh good lord..
we were talking about that upthread - Blanco did this on orders from the Clintons, Witt is the Clinton point man on politicizing this against Bush.
I will again suggest my tin-foil theory - Blanco was told by the DNC to dropback on maintaining civil order in the first 24-48 hours, to make FEMAs job harder, so they could blame Bush for this.

>>>The main responsibility and authority for operational aspects of evacuation in Orleans Parish lies with the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) within the Chief Administrative Office of the City. The authority to make the final decisions related to an evacuation rests with the Mayor of New Orleans.
