Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.
The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.
Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Did you see the picture with 2 little girls sitting by a box...and another little baby girl laying in the box?
It was an MRE box...it was here on FR...but probably a couple of threads ago...
THAT was one cute picture!
Where is Shep? The people are leaving the bridge. You would think he would be there.
Hey I've dated liberal chicks....they ain't so bad. Dog rule #1....Never talk politics.
I had an ex girlfriend send me this hate filled email saying George Bush wasnt helping out because the victims were all black, and that all the military was in Iraq, and a bunch of other nonsense.
the left realizes this is the one problem with their assault on Bush over what happened in NO - people saw the civil unrest there amongst some of the populace for themselves. they have to "explain" that part of the story away.
AH---you read my mind...thanks for reposting that picture!!!
Notice a trend...all us conservative guys have dated liberal chicks...LOL!
We did raise a son who is a 2001 USNA grad
Mmmmmmm... is that a ready-to-eat baby?
they are patching that one as fast as they.
One of my favorites from his "Good Old Boys" Album. 1974. And I still have the album. lol
I was twenty and he was 21 and ended up converting. His mom and grandparents were conservative, too. I think he was just going through the rebellion of youth and not enough experience with the real world at that point (He also had worse problems than his politics!) At my age, now... no way, no how would I waste my time with a liberal.
She's government approved "READY TO EAT!" ;OD
Saw this response earlier "it's like the children who are to be responsible for them selves Arrogant and self serving and then we need dad and mom now.
WOW---I can't figure out why that picture hasn't made it to front pages...what a doll!!!
And I wish a picture of that girl in the helicopter with her beautiful smile would make it where everyone can see it.
Sounds like a book I read when my daughter was a teenager - entitled something like - I HATE YOU, YOU'RE HORRIBLE, UGLY ETC. - CAN I HAVE A RIDE TO THE MALL
Yes. Their dad used to play for the Saints. Just talked to a friend of mine in Houma. Apparently Archie Manning is on the ground in NO and the Manning family is involved in helping people coming out of NO -- all of them. My friend is PO'd at the Saints and says many there feel the same way. After they have supported the losing franchise through thick and thin owner Benson took them to San Antonio and didn't cancel the pre-season game when all the players and organization could have been helping with the disaster.
My friend also thinks Blanco screwed everything up and Bush is furious with the whole debacle. Bush took command and put the general in charge. Word is he told Blanco and Nagin to shut up.
You notice how politicians from LA have a lot of complaints, but not about themselves? Reason is that none of them know how their demographics have changed and they are trying to save their damn skins. Jindal is showing this to be true on FOX.
The exceptions are Blanco and Naggin, being more than citizen re-alignments but rather concern they'll be hung if they show their faces without protection.
What I am noticing is who are the REAL leaders, and who are politicians.
The President is a leader. Barbour is a Leader. Perry is a leader.
Jindal, Vitter, Newt, Romney, Frist, Blanco, Nagin and co. are not.
They said that they would repair it only to the lake level for now. Look at the recent picture of the barge full of sand bags. The water is going out. The real important work now is fixing the 300,000 gallon per minute pump station #6.
They're probably scared to blow out other levees because the ignorant reporters will go nuts.
