Oh, I do remember seeing the Galveston contingency plan. I am impressed by Houston's plans, and implementation this week, too.

I wish some rep from Lousiana with the president's ear (that he trusted) had told him that was the only answer all along. Unfortunately they had to be allowed to show their complete incompetance first....Think what JJ would have said if "W" had initially stepped in. What can he say now that he has HAD to step in.

The Louisiana Governor had control over HER guard. Calling in other states' guards must be done by a formal request to the President, which hadn't happened until Thursday.

I'm sure you saw that the President is now sending in 7,000 active duty troops.

Geraldo is a big problem, but other reporters that I respected previously were making me cringe in the last few days. One example that was really hurtful was a Fox reporter interviewed a Woman that had her Husband and baby with her and she had been through hell, but was not complaining. You could tell a lot about her by the few words she spoke. The reporter kept going back to her and tried countless times to get her to feel sorry for herself and dwell on her plight. This is the wrong thing to do,when people know the horror and feel it and yet do not dwell on it instead look ahead to when things will be better, they are the survivors. I wanted to shake that reporter and tell him to stop trying to get negative soundbites because we see with our eyes the reality of the situation. The reporters on Fox are generally good, but a few need to be furloughed asap.

So this is an increase if there have been more than one per night. I just wondered.

Yep. I wondered the same thing myself until I heard/read that statistic. No doubt the folks committing these crimes have been engaging in illegal activities regularly before this week.

Last night when he was reporting on O'Reilly it was quite obvious that someone was trying to get Shep in control....OTOH SHep looked close to tears. Lest we forget this is his area of the world and he care deeply about it...WIll no doubt leave a mark on him forever....IMO The young man needs our prayers/support/understanding not criticism.

Well said, nobody who isn't on the scene in NO should be criticizing the emotional response of those who are.

Unless one has ever been involved in the movement of masses of humanity it is inconceivable. Add to that the dynamics of this event, and you have logistics that can't be appreciated by the fast-food, video game mentality our nation has adopted as a way of life.

I wish those complaining that enough wasn't/isn't being done could understand your statement. Thank you

There is no excuse for putting them ahead of the ones in the Superdome, none.

I think that the Mayor didn't want the bad press of a bunch of tourists murdered, raped, and robbed at the SuperDome.

I think they would have been a more likely target for some of the criminals there. Tourists have cash, jewelry, and are just too easy a target.

Also, IIRC, the people at the Hyatt had paid $75.00 two days ago for buses that were charted to evacuate them. Those buses were comandeered by police to evacuate their own families is what I remember reading. Whether that is why they were commandeered or not, I have no idea if that was rumor or fact.
