President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

I have no idea. Supposedly and allegedly people that came to astrodome, real refugees, that weren't on busses were turned away at first but were later let in. My hubby saw the homeless thing on local news clip today, and was telling me,,,,,and OF COURSE if it's on the news it HAS to be true,,,,(sarcasm, of course)

I'm curious about the allegation that some of Houston's homeless people are mingling with the New Orleans refugees -- didn't the people have to be taken off of buses before they are allowed inside the Astrodome? I'm wondering how a local homeless person might have gained entry on foot.

I believe you are correct. And didn't they have to get checked in? I wonder if they are doing those fingerprint background checks on them, too. Hmmmm.

Not surprising....

I'm sure some people that are already skilled at abusing the system could see this as a huge payday...

What was the ratio in New york for 9/11 in fraudulent claims?
7-8%?

Well, you know...the Dims talk such a good game....maybe they need a chance to prove themselves...just offer to get out of their way and let them clean up the mess....offer them total control...organization, securing financing, taking and letting bids, securing financing,...oh, did I repeat myself?

You hold the ace, we all hold the ace....in our pockets.

They know we hold it.

They don't know that we know they know we hold it.

Yet.

It's going to take all of us to rebuild New Orleans. All.

I think we all ought to work together, you know...cooperate?

I think they'll want that too.

I don't think half the country can get the job done by itself.

What do you think?

That post deserves its own thread. It's a great summary.

It should also be emailed to the various MSM outlets. Journalists who have no clue are speaking as experts.

Nagin realizes he is not alone there in Louisiana any more.
Mark my words - when the "Blame Bush" crap dies down, the media won't go after Blanko and Landrieu - they will go after the guy with corrupt police department and a city with no resources.
This guy was being played and punished by those Feminazis.

Former students (and neighbors) of mine...Great guys! They go when ever there is an emergency. A week down, week back rotation with others usually. Take their own food and water and sometimes donated items from community with them.

Also some folks that a employed with National Forest Service and stationed here have gone with their SUV and boat.
