President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Evening, Freepers.

Want to stop the idjits in their tracks?

Slack jawed, mouth open, drool collecting on the tops of their Docksiders?

Hint...I mean the barest hint that you're willing to play your ace...you know, the one in your pocket?

The rats will trample each other trying to get out of the way.

Even the ones who didn't work (and unlike some here I will continue to believe, until proven wrong, that most NO citizens had jobs and were not welfare leaches) would have had money for bus fare.

I believe median income for NO is something like 24,000. And I dont know where to go to look up the percentage of NO residents who were on assistance (not including the richer Jeff parish)

I wouldn't doubt it if Geraldo put the Police chief up to lying about the food and water.

I'm really starting to think there may have been half a million people in town when it flooded.

I'm seeing footage on fox of them setting their helocopter down in some neighborhood to save an old lady and people were coming out of nearly every house in site! must have been 50-100 people just in that one small area.

Starting to look like we may end with twice many evacuees as we should.

HGTV ... there's my list!

Food Network for me. I don't think I'm going to watch any news at all this weekend. I'll get it all from here and wait until the Roberts hearings next week. I'm sick of the MSM and their lies and race baiting.

Sink a damn barge in front of it, something. Plugging a damn hole can't be that impossible a feat when you know for years its the only thing saving your city.

One problem, FWIU, is that the levees themselves are basically just mounds of dirt. Adding something on top of a levee won't do much good if ANY water gets under the new thing you added. Instead, the flow under the new object will quickly erode the levy below it and may--especially if the erosion allows the object to fall through--result in a larger breach than if the "repair" had not been attempted.

OK, I forgot that people actually use AC units that are less than 15K BTUH.

*Most* gas generators (yours is larger than most) have some severe problems with being run for an extended period of time with that kind of draw.

Seems to me the Demigodcrats are more concerned about loosing voters and elections than humans.

I heard that Jessie came to NO for a photo opt.

Someone said that a refugee asked about how much water and food he brought.

The refugee asked for a drink and was told to wait for the NG.

Is this true or not.

Surely that over pampered charlatan Master Jessie the Scam Artists Jackson would have thought about his plantation workers.

Beverly Hills/Malibu/Brentwood.

Sorry, can't be Malibu. No one is allowed to camp in the city except one weekend a year when the powwow comes to town (their first exemption.) They get rather sensitive when fires come raging and people begin to set up tents in Bluff's Park. Same with the annual spring floods.

I'm sure they'll hold a fund raiser so they can smile at each other, pat each other's backs and sneer at conservatives.

A few more unruly passengers have been reported on planes due to land soon. One positive note, the Levi site was short of volunteers to help put the cots together, and were afraid they would be innundated with evacuees before they had them put together. Men from the first three busloads of evacuees that arrived there helped volunteers get all the cots put together and set up. in short order. They now have about 1700 cots set up at the Levi Strauss location. Still waiting there for blankets, water, and food for the evacuees, but they are supposed to be delivered within the hour.
