Sadly, this kind of stupidity and selfishness is what got alot of people into this mess in the first place. The water she just dumped onto herself could have made the difference between life and death for a severely dehydrated baby. Part ignorance, part selfishness.
STATE prisoners were transferred to other facilities...
Local prisoners (those not yet convicted) were let loose...
No, we aren't sure it's accurate. However, it was reported on two or three occasions by FoxNews.
The boats are for rescuing people in the flooded areas. There's still people trapped in their homes.
The reports from Texas shelters seem to show quiet and fairly grateful people. They may have figured out a way to filter out the trouble before sending them or perhaps the folks in Texas did their own screening when they arrived.
Governor Perry is running for re-election...
Now, I am not saying this to disparage what he has done...it is more than some other Governors have done.
BUT, just be prepared for the blasting from the left.
I WILL blast him if this in any way gets us closer to state income tax, though...
This should come out of a HS share.
Good post. I agree completely.
Civilian on the ground contradicted that story - perhaps the Chief meant that they don't have any more water or food and is worried about the morning?
Scanner chatter implies to me that we will have a full-blown refugee crisis all through the South by daylight . . . get ready . . . the storm surge is headed for your town . . .
Even just feeding them is going to be a crisis unto itself . . .
Me too.......I've been keeping up with news of Houma, I lived there a few years ago, 90 goes straight into NO & past the Dome.
I know Terrebonne Par. (Houma) was allowing evac's back Tues. because they only received some wind damage......I know they also asked for volunteers w/small boats for rescues too. (Prolly many of those that retreated due to sniper fire....:o(
Louisiana State Police officers stop a car in downtown New Orleans, Friday, Sept. 2, 2005
I would say driving a nice Caddy like that three days after martial law would be suspicious?
Anyone know what the number of sex offenders is in LA compared to say Florida?
Like I said, GW is going to be alone in the political world. I have never been as disgusted with the American people as I am right now. Howlin, this disaster has even started yet and, I have seen it right here on FR, people now believe that the federal government should have had this wrapped up on Wednesday. What is it going to be like when they are told that it will take 50 billion dollars just to get people back into some type of housing while we spend another 100 billion building it all back. That isn't even counting the effect this will have on our will to stay in Iraq or even Afghanistan. They announced today that FEMA is spending 700 million a day and we are YEARS away from putting this behind us. We still have the entire month of September to get through for the Hurricane season and that is the most active month for the Gulf Coast. What happens if Florida or the Texas coast is next?
All I'm saying is when this is all said and done, I'd like someone to subpoena these "premium only" gas stations and check out their Veeder Root records (tank levels)
I just don't know. I just know AP and CNN were reporting, and have photos, that food and water arrived. I also heard that CNN talked to someone waiting at the convention center who said they finally had food and water. Maybe it wasn't enough, and ran out? That would have been reported though. I guess the situation will become clearer tomorrow morning because it sure is confused tonight.
The French QUarter is fine....FIlm on Fox tonight.
You are right about some people not having to be told twice...Two are safe a warm with family here in Indiana....But they were invited to several "hurricane parties" and had "intelligent" friends who chose to stay and party. Haven't heard from them yet.
LOL!
President Bush cautioned us to conserve fuel right now. As a result, I've heard a multitude of stories relating that people are hoarding gasoline. Learned tonight there were near-riots at gas stations in Charlotte NC, and that every tank, can, tea cup and saucer around the Queen City is now filled with gasoline.
"Jesse Jackson questioned why Bush has not named blacks to top positions in the federal response to the disaster, particularly when the majority of victims remaining stranded in New Orleans are black: "How can blacks be locked out of the leadership, and trapped in the suffering?"
"It is that lack of sensitivity and compassion that represents a kind of incompetence."
Yoohoo Rev. Jackson, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russell Honore who is in charge in New Orleans is BLACK!
What happened to those screened out? Back on the streets?
