President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

I already have 1, even though it hasn't been out of the closet in 4 years...

BUT...

I know where to get heavy firepower on short notice, and we have a plan for the family should anything like that ever happen (New Madrid, F5 Tornado)..

I don't believe that what I'm watching Shep and Geraldo are do are helping the National Guard troops. Geraldo is trying to incite a riot, which is not helping the situation.

And ya know, I don't think EITHER OF THEM is really in control of their emotions. I think Geraldo would have been ok until he picked up that baby.

Let's remember HE JUST HAD ONE!!

Shep is great. Geraldo is a drama queen, but if it gets action. Those people should not be locked into the area. They need water. They need food. They are dying. So what if Shep loses it on the air. He's been living in hell on earth for days. He's physically and emotionaly exhausted. Freepers sitting comfortably back in their homes arm-chair quarterbacking aren't helping things.

Give to your favorite charity going down there. Pray for those people. Pray for the reporters.

Everyone is losing sight of something as folk here argue about the number of days, whether Shep or Geraldo said this or that. What you are missing is that this is now a national disgrace to have people dying in the streets of an AMERICAN city. I cannot stomach the thought of children dying or being raped. Let stop talking about whether or not these reporters are grandstanding or not. The important thing is the people who are DYING before our eyes. Get it?

How many people will be murdered on the streets of Detroit, Gary and L.A. this weekend? People die in the streets of American cities every night. We've taught ourselves as a nation to live with that, as bad as that is.

The first people the national guard should forcibly evacuate are the press.

But I will tell you something that really surprised me: my biggest liberal friend called me tonight and SHE is furious about the coverage.

Yep. My brother is as liberal as anyone I know. (He still has a "US Out of Iraq" sign in his yard.) Even he told me that the MSM converage was ridiculous.

Yes, we got it. And we also get that hysterical journalists do NOT help the mood and could incite violence and panic.

This is why we want them PULLED.

O'Reilly did a good job tonight of extracting the information from Shep and Geraldo, who are understandably emotional on the scene, and relayed it in a constructive manner to help move the situation forward, and to a better place.

That is how I saw it, too. Good observation.

Remember, you are talking about FOX! They probably love it. There was a report of an official..don't remember the title, that was trapped in the convention center and was begging for rescue. Might have been Secretary of State. Has anyone heard anymore about that person?

I believe it was a female member of Spanish Parliament or such..I thought they got out I also thought there were tons of NG right there at the Convention Center and peace was restored..

I think Shep is just reporting what he is seeing. I think Geraldo is being Geraldo, and that's okay if it gets these folks fed and moved.
