President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

Yep. And they are seeing things that they won't even show on cable. The death and destruction . . . and not being able to do anything about it . . . I cannot imagine how awful it is . . .

E-mail to FOX NEWS:
PLEASE, for the good of the country, the profession of journalism and the good of FOX NEWS- get Geraldo and Shep OFF the air.

They have completely lost all sense and can no longer report the news- they are now attempting to make it.

We are in a CRISIS in our country. They are adding fuel to it with every word they utter- where in the hell are the grown-ups at FOX NEWS?

In short, presstitutes are being leftist presstitutes again.

I don't think Shep is being too emotional considering the situation he is in and what he has seen. Hell, i'm emotional and distraught and i'm way out here in Cali.

They need to find a way to relieve these guys and send someone else. And give them immediate counseling.

I'm in Middle America...

People are more upset that gas is >$3/gallon.

And right, the press isn't going where things are good, because there's no story in that.

Shep needs therapy. Bad.

It's probably not the best idea to make fun of these weary reporters that a lot of you are doing. I;m not even a specific fan of them but I don't want ot hear it. This is a horrible, terrible, traumatic situation and we aren't there and can only imagine the limits of a human being to withstand it.

Fair point. However, if a reporter can't remain calm and professional, he or she is worse than useless. First rule in any crisis is not to lose your head! If Shep and Rivera have lost it, then FOX needs to pull them out.

I'm not making fun of anybody, reporter or otherwise. I'm stating my opinion that the guys need to go home. They're stressed out.

I'm not sure what Whoraldo's problem is, he just got there. But if he's going to get people on the ground stirred up and get the riots started, he's going to get himself and innocent people killed. He should be pulled.

Plain and simple.

Usher just said that Bush doesn't care about black people! They immediately cut away!

My daughter just said it was Kanye West, not Usher.

Hey, Howlin.
You are right.
Those who were so devastated and sad are now truly ticked off.
Seems Americans are pretty law-savvy in this country and know wihout a doubt what the problems are - not how the media is trying to spin it.
Notice the difference in the coverage in the past 24 hours? I certainly have.

Remember, you are talking about FOX! They probably love it. There was a report of an official..don't remember the title, that was trapped in the convention center and was begging for rescue. Might have been Secretary of State. Has anyone heard anymore about that person?
