SACRAMENTO -- Facing widespread opposition to his special election, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that if voters reject a proposed spending restraint on the November ballot, he might be forced to raise taxes.
Schwarzenegger previewed a campaign theme in a morning radio interview, predicting that new taxes might be the only alternative if voters reject Proposition 76, the "Live Within Our Means" act.
Asked on Sacramento station KTKZ-1380 AM what he might do to avert future budget deficits if the spending control is defeated, Schwarzenegger said:
"Then we have to look at raising taxes, because this is the only option we have, in order to create the money. And this is why I tell people vote yes on Proposition 76 and make sure that we do everything that we can to pass this proposition so that we force our legislators once and for all to live within their means and not to continue spending money and to keep making promises to people that they can't keep."
Schwarzenegger's comments came amid a new statewide poll showing little appetite for the Nov. 8 special election that he depicts as central to his "year of reform" agenda.

The "spending cap" initiative includes authorization for more bonds.
And that is exactly what the Arnold supporters have done. They have folded their arms in and not only hope things will get better they keep telling us how crazy we are for pointing out they are getting worse.
sorry for the late reply -
"Arnold called those supporting the racial privacy act, Prop 54, "Right Wing Crazies". Do you think those the are "fanatical conservatives", also?"
No - he didn't - you have the quote wrong.

I believe Arnold is a socialist who has implemented a more socialist agenda than a Dem could have dreamed of. Too me that is hitting rock bottom. There isn't much lower we can go except the increase of taxes and he is threatening that.
Let me ask you -
Are there people that you would catagorize as "fanatical conservatives " ?
Yes but I ain't one of em.
Let me ask you something. Are you happy with the massive increase in budget (all Arnold's not the legislatures), the property rights violations and rampant environmentalism he is foisting on us? Are you happy with the huge increase in debt? Do you rejoice when he talks about how the government should be taking care of the people?
show of hands -
Who here, when I use the term "Fanatical Conservative" thinks I am refering to you ?
Who here, when Arnold used the term "right wing crazies" thinks he was refering to you ?
My hand is raised on both counts.
Are there still enough non-scumbag Republicans in the legislature to prevent a tax increase? Or is there that necessary handful of Republicans who will join the Democrats and vote for a tax increase if Arnold asks them to? (A Democrat governor would arguably have a more difficult time getting a tax hike through the legislature.) I guess I'm asking if Arnold may end up being the worst thing that could have happened to the decent Californians who voted for him and who haven't left the place yet.
Really?
Prop. 54 backer: Schwarzenegger gave him an earful
Timm Herdt, Ventura County Star, September 10, 2003
Schwarzenegger explained that he had studied the measure and determined it was a "no-brainer" to oppose it. Schwarzenegger went on to say he believed it important that public schools be able to identify minority children to help "bring them up to the starting line. And if the right-wing crazies have a problem with that, so be it."
RS You appear to have the savvy and intellect of a deflated tennis ball. Why don't you go play somewhere where your limited cognition won't be such a handicap - like on the 880 freeway at 4:30?
Pssst!!! There ain't no FReeper named "all!" (but how would you know?)
Please refer back to my posts on this thread.
If you do not believe that "right wing crazies" exist, we don't have a lot to discuss.
I read the garbage and misrepresentations you posted on this thread once; I have no desire to read them again. You said I misquoted Arnold (while providing absolutely zero support). I gave you the direct quote from the newspaper.
I do note that you got very silent when I pointed out that the "spending cap" includes yet MORE DEBT! Selectively choosing which posts to respond to, huh?
So much for cutting up those credit cards.
If A.S. thinks Ward Connerly is a right wing crazy, then A.S. is most certainly a left wing crazy of the Nth degree!!!
Now Ward isn't conservative enough for me, but I still like his attitude!!!
"RS You appear to have the savvy and intellect of a deflated tennis ball. "
C'mon... you can do better then that - is that what I've worn you down to ? What's next ? "You're a big doodie-head ?"
Get up and fight ! Logic ! Sources ! traceable quotes !
( although it is better then giving a "quote" and having it turn out to be a tortured interpretation of what was said instead )
"You said I misquoted Arnold (while providing absolutely zero support). I gave you the direct quote from the newspaper."
... and the direct quote did not support what you said - your interpretation of the quote is what is wrong - perhaps you could try diagraming the sentance ?
Hey ALL... you don't exist !
( and people who have been here for 5 years have started to figure that out )
BZZzzaaapp!
