some hitch hiked I have no idea what shape these 40 somethings were in but if you REALLY read it, you'd know they were told repeatedly that buses were coming. They did finally get themselves out.

And I watched a tourist couple, on Sunday (Fox news), say that they had no choice but to ride the storm out in their hotel because their flight was canceled. Their "supplies" consisted of two 12 packs of beer, two bottles of bottled water and a couple bags of chips. I would have taken a cab to the hi-way and stuck my thumb out, there was only a couple hundred thousand cars leaving at the time.

I sincerely hope you are never stranded someplace. Truly.

Why do all you keyboard warriors believe that the other person posting on FR that you disagree with is just some un-experienced blowhard, like yourself?

I don't understand why the word "stranded" is so hard to comprehend.

The threads are full of that stuff today.  They lump everyone in with the lame, the stupid, the criminal looters, the thugs, the gangs, etc.

Does not occur to them there are other reasons why people were stranded or otherwise unable to leave.

I was being sincere. Maybe being stranded looks different to a woman than a man. And I never called you names.

Now, work at mastering the important stuff . . .

If you mean surviving emergencies, I've lived through hurricanes in Biloxi, volcanoes in Washington state, earthquakes in Athens Greece, typhoons in Taiwan, tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas and crazy American hating muslims in more third world countries than you can pronounce. Not once did some bureaucrat save me.....

My husband and I are exhausted as we haven't slept in days and are emotionally drained, but can't help but think if it weren't for the Grace of God and a little good timing, we would still have been there. And today is one more day past and NOTHING HAS CHANGED. SOMETHING IS WRONG. There is no reason they don't have church buses that can come in and get these people, let the Red Cross in, let supplies in, etc..........

NOLA is now a death trap. They don't want crowd of civilians in trying to help because a) they are expecting more levee breaks and b) the infectious disease problem there is about to go through the roof. Most military and civilian rescue workers are immunized/protected against them. Finally, c) there are thousands of bodies floating in the flood waters and the incompetent "leadership" doesnt want you sheeple to know about it.

NO government EVER tells its citizens EVERYTHING. You can't handle the truth... It's for your own good...

The bus was paid for by the Marriott Corp who was dedicated to getting their associates and guests out of the city. Rumor is the CEO or Mr. Marriott, or someone high up at Marriott got buses ready on Tuesday and had to get special permission from the governor to allow the buses in. They had to make more than one phone call to make that happen, but that is what they did.

Kudos to Marriott; this was well done indeed on their part.

SHAMEFUL

The word I have been using since Monday. There is no other word that applies - the richest country in the world and we have corposs in the street. Unforgivable is another appropriate word.

Insane and pathetic. Blanco's head had best be the first to roll. And where the hell is Congress and Marshal Law for NO?

there was some leadership in Louisianna after all, but it was at the corporate, not state or local governmental level...

Because problem solving is what you do in corporate America in order to survive, whereas if you are a government employee NOT solving a problem is how you and your job survive.

"only awaiting the Governor to allow them to get in."

Was it a political decision to not call out the Guard immediately or not permit the Red Cross in immediately? Democratic leadership......Republican presidency......$$?

Wow.

"Well, there was some leadership in Louisianna after all, but it was at the corporate, not state or local governmental level..."

Just heard the chairman of the black caucus on Lou Dobbs. Lou asked who was to blame. Guy said now was not the time to assess blame as there was too much still to do. Then went on to blame the federal government from waiting too long to step in when the local government was unable to cope. IOW, it's Bush's fault for not realizing the local dems was too incompetent to cope.

When things quiet down and NO has settled into some kind of recovery, and liberals renew their inevitable cry for gun control, remember this story

This whole hurricane business has hopefully made it clear to all but the most dense of the American people that it is a citizen's responsibility to maintain a firearm in his or her home, and to know how to use it.

" Fema was prepositioning BEFORE the hurricane struck."

I was thinking about that, too. Monday, gather resources, as the Feds don't work weekends. Tues., load. Weds. and Thurs., drive to the tip of LA, AL and MISS, arriving late Thursday. Actually, this would be within a 6 hour window of on time for a massive movement of materiel.

I have never been in one) is to look for "the authorities" to define the rules.

I have been in a major large-scale crisis and I can tell you what I observed first hand. The 'authorities', namely the police, are excellent at following procedure and orders but a true crisis often can best be addressed with people who are adept at thinking on their feet and making pragmatic, instant decisions. The police are pathetic in this regard because their overall effectiveness lies in 'teamwork' and 'orders from above'. When the team is limited and the 'above' is not available to communicate with they are essentially worthless. In addition, they are trained to be 'uninvolved and aloof' and consequently they are also cold when they tell people something such as 'help is coming'. It was EXACTLY this combination of circumstances that caused officers to advise a young girl to remain in her home 'waiting for help' when the entire neighborhood around her was in flames. Help never came and she lost her life.

"What is the problem? We demand to know. You, your officials, your Governor owe us, your own citizens that you've left for dead an apology."

=========================================================================

This just in: Gov. Blanco and Major Nagin have responded to this couple. Answer: "It's all Bush's fault. He vacationed while New Orleans flooded..." < /end sarcasm >

When the storm was still heating up, and the potential for loss was apparent, I told my wife that "Louisiana is the most politically corrupt place on earth; I hope to God some good leaders still exist there.."

FEMA and Federal Agencies may have something to answer for, and if the tragedy was magnified due to the Federal government's mistakes under Bush's watch, then let the chips fall where they must. But the apparent fact that the local Government in LA is corrupt, incompetent, and down-right cowardly, does not surprise me at all.

Bush should just declare martial law and be done with it. I understand the state govenment must request this, but if the Govenor's request didn't reach Bush before he deploys the troops, then "oops .. technical communications problems due to the flood..sorry .."

SFS

Apparently, neither did anyone else.

Give it up.  You're not the only one with a personal history.
