I see Americans helping Americans. I hear stories and see photos that inspire me! I thank God I live in America.
Brett Coomer / Chronicle A paramedic carries a pair of girls away from an Army helicopter after they were airlifted from their flooded home in New Orleans on Tuesday.
I just listened to the local D.C. radio news and they played a woman screaming about no showers in the Astrodome. No this, no that, no nothing (I hear different). Then they quoted Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich making snide remarks about the progress of relief efforts.
Melissa Phillip / Chronicle Volunteer Heather Carson holds her son Joel Carson, 10 months, while she sorts through donated items. She and other volunteers at the Westlake Fire Department organized donated items for refugees from Hurricane Katrina. Three families of around 70 people stayed at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department on Saums Road near Katy. Residents of the community converged on the fire station to bring supplies and offer support.
Americans are doing for each other but what is reported?
Negative, negative, negative.
Depress. Depress. Depress.
Bash Bush. Bash Bush. Bash Bush! Bash America.
Never, ever uplift and encourage or praise! That's the MSM I know and despise!
There are so many GOOD things going on by agencies and citizens. But NO, they won't report those things.
Keep up the good work FReepers. Report what Americans have been doing and will continue to do to help the survivors of Katrina.
My prayers for Laura and her family. God bless you all.
Beautiful story.
Thank you!!
Yes unspun and ALL of it.
I understand your points.
I think the main problems are water, water, water and local government - not to mention the criminal element in New Orleans and the loss of their police/fire departments.
Ratings......
Yes.
But if they want to be credible and not just rich, they need to be professional and report on the good stuff too. Not to mention, it would help our country in a time of crisis.
That must have been a beautiful moment.
Thank you!
Thanks for the ping to a great story!
No cannibalism?
A Leftist Bush-basher Africanamerican lied and said people were commiting Cannabalism, but not a shread of proof!
He is the filthy scum that keep this Country torn apart.
He should be Banished from this Great Country.
Racist garbage like Elijah Cummings and Randall Robinson should be ignored
and Jesse Hi-Jackson, and Charles Rangle, and all the Race-Baiters.
Family finds relief at a local shelter
More pics at the link (sorry I can't post a photo and a hotlink in one post. I even had help). Can't do it. http://www.marinetimes.com/Photos/index.php?d=20050902&i=4
My parents raised seven boys and all turned out to be upstanding citizens. Mom had and eighth grade education and Dad high school. They worked like dogs seven days a week to raise us boys in their little Arkansas town. I had two and don't know how they did it.
I call it the Treason Media. AKA the Lamestream Media, the RATmedia.
Thank you!!!
***....On Saturday, hundreds of local residents perused store aisles, picking up relief supplies and delivering them to drop-off points for distribution, while others pulled up to the local Red Cross offices to drop off money or sign up to be volunteers.
Five-year-old Mallory Morgan was no exception. She joined in the relief effort by selling her baked chocolate-chip cookies and pink lemonade in her Killearn neighborhood at her uncle's garage sale.
And she later, with Mom in tow, showed up at Leon County's American Red Cross to turn over the $30.50 she made.
"She wanted to help the hurricane victims," said Jan Morgan, Mallory's mom.
Mallory baked five pans worth, about 100 cookies. Buyers could get two for 25 cents and a cup of pink lemonade for another quarter.
"But some gave me more than that," said Mallory, who pulled a $5 bill out of her cup.
"We know this is not much," said Morgan, fighting back tears in the Red Cross offices, "because we know they need so much more.".......***
***Houma, La. The Salvation Army of Houma, La., has been providing three meals a day to refugees seeking shelter at the Houma Civic Center, but without the local citizens, it would not have been possible..............***
***Tennessee - Although probably only one of many stories, the small town (15,000) of Lebanon, Tn. is preparing to take in some 2,000 Hurricane victims. After already sending thousands of dollars and truckloads of relief goods to Mississippi, Alabama and Lousiana, Lebanon has been asked to house as many as 2,000 people. Lebanon has responded in heoric fashion. ***
IN THE MEANTIME:
***.........NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 4 - A day after two police suicides and the abrupt resignations or desertions of up to 200 police officers, defiant city officials on Sunday began offering five-day vacations - and even trips to Las Vegas - to the police, firefighters and city emergency workers and their families. ............***

Interesting note:
Reuters now refers uses "bureaux" as the plural of "bureau." Not incorrect, but it is what they would call in computer coding, "denigrated."
