Governor Pataki...your move!

All that will do is raise consumption, empty the gas stations tanks and worsen the shortage. We simply need more refining capacity -- It's not price.
Just wait, the shortages and long lines will follow. Write this down.
I'm completely against gas taxes but this will only serve to increase demand on an already strained supply.
It may actually make the gas lines worse.
Tarpon and Reagan Disciple, you are spot on!

I just found bargain gas at 3.18. I only got 1/2 a tank for $35.00. I might topoff early in the morning.

Now President Bush should do this with the 50 cents on each gallon.

Or maybe Bush can dismantle the EPA and let the free market decide things. Have the Feds but out for a change.

$6.00 a gallon was one or two stations. Regular is averaging about $3.19 this morning.

We filled up our Acura with 93 octane for $2.739 on Sunday, August 28th. Current 93 octane prices in New Hampshire area are $3.35 and up.

I watched this live on TV and was very impressed with the Governor. I think it's a good move.

Case in point why this is a bad idea. This fine person will be like many others, that rush out to buy the cheaper gas, pushing the price up and/or exhausting supplies. And the GA coffers will have less money for roads, etc.

There is some question if this is good or bad in the sense lower prices=more consumption=not staving off possible hysterical run on gas.
However, the other side of me is happy with this. And once those taxes are removed, I'm not certain it's going to be so easy to place them back.

Was that gouging at those one or two stations, or a legitimate response to the pipeline supply problem?

Well, that's a start, but .075 on $6.00 a gallon.... That's what I was thinking. So basically, he rolled the prices back to ... this morning?
To: Thanatos
This Gov is doing things! Seems a little unusual these days.

Stupid Move! It pretends the laws of economics don't exist. The price of gas will be what the public is willing to pay for the supply available. Now that tax money will go into the profit margin of the gas station and the oil companies. Why do people think the laws of economics can be wiped out by the stroke of a pen? Hey why don't we negate gravity by having the governor sign a decree?

And the GA coffers will have less money for roads, etc.I avoided the panic on Fri so I wouldn't be a part of the problem. I have been off most of the week and let my truck sit for 5 days with less than 1/4 tank of gas.
I have to go back to work now. When would you suggest I gas up?

Was that gouging at those one or two stations ...Yes, and no. Although there were only a couple of stations that kicked it up to $6, there were a lot at $5 - $5.50. It was caused by a panic rumor from some morning DJ's in Atlanta. A lot of it was most definitely gouging, and that's why the Governor stepped in and froze prices on Wednesday afternoon.
