"with all my animals with me."

It's especially sad to think of the pets who were left behind inside the homes, I must admit.

I can't even read through this thread. As a matter of fact, I've been watching several threads and people are dropping like flies because of hatefulness, threats, "know it all" attitudes, insults and condescension. I saw lots of people get banned during the Shiavo discussions, it's gonna happen during Katrina discussions, as well.

It is possible to save them all, imho. I see no need to sacrifice people's pets to save people. Hearts have been broken enough already.

I agree. Given what is going on with HUMAN BEINGS in New Orleans, who gives a damn about some doggies?

I took $100. to the Houston SPCA yesterday.

Great!! I have emailed them and am sending a donation as well. In their response to me they said they were badly in need.

It is ugly and sad for any suffering to happen, but it sure seems like the animal folk are very effective and organized. They have a ton of volunteers, as you can read. I was very impressed.

Thanks for posting this...I have been wondering about all the animals abandoned in NO. I have seen many interviews of people who decided to stay in the belief that the storm wouldn't be as bad as it was, but the animals had no such choice. Good to see there are organisations moving in to help, I will be contributing to Noahs Wish in addition to other relief orgs.

When I see news stories about people doing terrible things to animals, I wonder who these scumbags are who are so place value only on themselves?

Then I read this thread and figured it out.

have been a lurker here for over a year and was always very impressed with the compassion shown by the members

Like most internet forums, you'll find all types of people here. Please don't let those who can't walk and chew gum get to you. Because they can only do one thing at a time, they assume everyone else is so limited, when actually it is entirely possible to organize to help animals and help people simultaneously. The Coast Guard and other search-and-rescue teams do it all the time.

Besides, if the "people first" crowd would stop and think for a moment, they'd realize that every live animal taken out of the city is one less dead animal left there to add to the contamination.

Beaversmom, the ones that are so mean about the animals are just people that are ashamed they arent DOING ANYTHING AT ALL, for animals or people, so they try to make anyone thats doing ANYTHING feel guilty....
what I do with my time, money and energy is my business...BUT AT LEAST IM DOING SOMETHING....the "animals be damned" crowd, are just lazy loafers who are using the only energy they WILL USE for this hurricaine to "pretend" to be outraged .... mouthing off is their greatest talent..
thanks to ANYONE who is helping the helpless... be it an animal or human....

Not only that, but searchers for animals are going to find people in need of help too, and with some luck, get help for them.
