NEW ORLEANS The situation in New Orleans was nearing rock bottom Friday as thousands of National Guardsmen armed with food, water and weapons streamed into the hurricane-ravaged city to bring relief to the suffering multitudes and take back the streets from the looters and armed vigilantes.

When my Guard unit arrived in Pensacola (my hometown) after Ivan we were greeted with overwhelming hugs, kisses, thanks, food and water from everyone. But we are dealing with a different class of people than NOLA

In most states, lethal force is not authorized to protect property, only life and limb.Any miscreants going to Texas better take a lesson quick--or they will get an even quicker object lesson. "I was in fear of my life" was ingrained in me from an early age.

EXACTLY! I was waiting for the stupid B#itch to say:
I have ordered the National Guard to restore order and to shoot to kill any looters or others engaged in criminal acts.
Of course that would cut into her voter base.

It appears, finally, that things are moving forward.
Now, if they would just whack a few of these looters, things would really be on their way.
------
Seeing those video takes of the looters brought back memories for this ole guy --- memories of THE WATTS RIOTS in Los Angeles in the sixties. I was a young serviceman then, as were many of my friends who actually did duty in the Watts riots. They took care of the looters and shooters -- the right way -- and that settled things down real FAST! It was an ugly time, but it took guts and guns to get it under control. Nothing else would have.

Here is a quote (I just saw) at DU:
" Bush said today they had to 'secure the area"--this is past scary. He
had been talking about the Convention center which he said he had been briefed on. it is clear to me that the military is treating this like a war zone. while the people just want someone to CARE."
I am actually in shock someone could believe that!

How does the crisis "worsen" by federal help arriving???
To: OpusatFR
Blanco and Nagin are probably rehearsing their stories... so when the 'tribunals' begin, they both will be using the same lies.

Don't go over there. I'm a Libertarian leaning Green and even I know that they have zero understanding of Government and the only lawyers on there are cheerleaders for the DNC propaganda.
Repeat: I don't care for Bush, but I dam# sure don't want the democrats in there.

Starting to think that with a day or two of power outages and 3-5 missed meals we could see similar outbreaks in any number of major cities. Bad enough we had numerous welfare types already, we've now added to the mix millions of people who do not speak the language, have no skills and are totally dependent on gov't. services. New Orleans needs to be the ultimate wake-up call for some of these idiot social planners in the fedgov as well as other gov't. entities.

This picture says a lot about the planning efforts:
These busses could have been fueled up and staged in a place above sea level before the store hit!

That very picture of incompetence should be on every thread and newscast.
To: OpusatFR
"Gov. Kathleen Blanco (search) called the looters "hoodlums" and issued a warning to lawbreakers: Hundreds of National Guard troops hardened on the battlefield in Iraq have landed in New Orleans.
"They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded," she said. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will."
-------
Until this morning, I thought that a Govn'r saying such a thing was yet another example of wild stories and gross exaggeration.
Then, I saw her on the TV, saying exactly that.
My guess is that the next time I see her on TV, she will be screaming bloody murder that the Iraq-hardened NG troops have killed dozens of the very people that elected her. Boggles the mind that she says this crap for effect today without thinking about the longer term, in this case, maybe a month or two.

If there are photos of NO school buses...why weren't they used days before to evacuate NO residents? Each bus can hold at least 50 people. Maybe the Mayor should be asked that question...

To put it in language that only seems to get through to the Dims (re: John "Effin" Kerry) - That stupid f***er was warned of the impending catastrophe before Saturday, knew the President said to get them out of there before it hit (federal disaster was granted on Saturday - read the news Jack(ass) Cafferty), and still he "did not get off his a$$" (to paraphrase him) and did nothing until now (as underscored by that lot full of school buses under water), and all he is doing now is passing the buck. There has to be a way for the President to relieve this incompetent ass (and the equally ineffective Governor of LA) of their powers over this situation and to place it in the hands of someone like the Director of Homeland Security to supervise the evacuation and the restoration of order.

I just can't get over why Bush and Cheney, with Halliburton's assistance have not totally rebuilt the dome, the city, pumped the water out, buried the dead, built everyone a new $150,000 home, a new boat, put the sand back on the beaches, washed all their clothes, shined their shoes, barbecued them a cow, swept the streets, repaved the roads, bought everyone a new car, all in what? 5 days? Is he lazy? Do they not care? What gives? /sarcasm still on.

Yes, of course...these people want emotions over substance..."caring" is all that matters.
That's why the Left and the Media loved Clinton is a time like this...he could make his lip quiver...appear to be choked up, ie he "CARED"!
Style over substance defines the Left.
