Perhaps he has intelligence showing that Terrorists are planning to attack the refineries in NJ and CA?? Lord knows, now would be the time.

You cannot know what information the President is dealing with...

Day of one of the debates he was dealing with the BESLAN MASSACRE earlier in the day.

I'm not defending Bush, I haven't seen the speach, but I know one damn thing, I WOULD NOT WANT THAT JOB!

It's the home-owner who is most responsible for building and maintaining his home in safe order. Not some bureaucracy. Since you want to play the blame game, play it according to the rules. Start local.

Stop with the B.S. You most certainly are trying to blame the President for this.

"This thing" is spread over 90,000 square miles! What one person COULD be in charge of all of that and do a halfway good job? Winston Churchill could not have handled this entire thing. New Orleans has a Mayor. He is supposed to be in charge of his city, for crying out loud!

A ZOT is more in your destiny I believe. At least I don't post drivel the equivalent of "when things are bad and full of doubt, run in circles, screeeeam and shout!'

Which is your tiresome approach today.

Yes Peach, the sleepers are restive this morning. Must've gotten an email from Camp Casey.

I know..The President isn't happy either..I hate this suffering..I want us to pull together and we will prevail..
We are watching heartbreking suffering and I expect criticism but it is becoming unreasonable.

Neither Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton has EVER calmed down a situation. They are rabble rousers, not peace makers.

"There is nothing bigger than this storm. Not right now." I would certainly hope not, but you never know.

I went thru Hurricane Andrew and three hurricanes last year. Why should the state of Florida be responsible for the special problems that have been apparent with New Orleans for many years? Don’t you think the state of Louisiana bears the brunt of responsibility for at least to have had a plan for adequate shelters and evacuation of New Orleans in case of catastrophe such as Katrina?

Excellent!

Of course, they are ENTITLED to do those things.

In the past week, in our family, we've had a car wreck, the A/C went out and the sewer line stopped up.

It is, of course, Bush's fault.

I do believe that is why he is going down there.

Hopefully you're right. I want those thugs dealt with as quickly as possible. The whole world is watching us right now and, trust me, we are NOT looking good. In fact, we're downright weak.

This just goes to show you how dependent on government much of the American populace has become

Bingo.

Most idiots out there think of the gubmint as their safety net. They are dead wrong.

Damn...it is refreshing to see someone else that feels this way.

I am extremely troubled by the govt's reaction to this disaster. The administration has been telling us that all the money we have been pouring into HS/FEMA has beem to prepare for this exact type of event. Yet it has become a gigantic fustercluck.

I am not alone in watching this unfold and saying WTF have we been doing.

I find it utterly impossible to believe that the current events were not unforseen. For one, the communication failure is appalling.

And Brown ispires no confidence.

Okay, I should probably know this, but what is the Insurrection Act?

Briefly,

The Insurrection Act (Title 10 USC, Sections 331-335). This act allows the president to use U.S. military personnel at the request of a state legislature or governor to suppress insurrections. It also allows the president to use federal troops to enforce federal laws when rebellion against the authority of the U.S. makes it impracticable to enforce the laws of the U.S.

I blame Bush for:

not being prepared for my toilet backing up this morning.

not stopping the hot weather

not pulling weeds from my garden

not preventing the grill from flaring up and burning my hamburger last night.

Folks, I see a lot of guff going on here.

Disasters happen.

Bad disasters happen.

We are going to lose Americans when they happen.

But we will survive disasters (unless Yellowstone really does blow up for real ;-) and in this case, the right thing to do is to continue to work to fix the disaster we are currently faced with.

Has the municipality done a bad job? Yes, an extraordinarily bad one. And it won't probably improve in its execution.

Has the state done a bad job? Yes, a remarkably bad one, and it won't probably won't improve in its execution.

Will we come out of this unscathed? Nope. It's clear that this is going to be painful. Guess what? We can take it. We can take pain that I don't want to even imagine, and we can lick it.

Sorry for the preaching to the choir; I know some of you probably feel exactly the same way or close enough. But I hope that we can calm down and move forward.

Thank you for your attention.

[And to add a little historical perspective, there is nothing wrong with all of the carping about how things are being handled --- it's a free country, we are an ornery lot with a lot of strong-held opinions. But let's also take historical perspective on our other great disasters -- the Johnstown Flood, the Chicago Fire, the San Francisco earthquake and subsequent fire, Galveston -- and realize we can and will overcome other disasters, including Katrina.]
