Get Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson down there calm down the populace.

LOL!!! If you want calm...you've picked two complete opposites.

Angcat, it's not just "these people" who are growing uncomfortable with the President's handling of the situation. It's the whole damned country, many Republicans and conservatives included

And what would you have done with dealing with an incompetant NO and LA govt, Einstein?

Bush had to goad nagin and blanco to order mandatory evacuations.

But by that time it was too late. The blame lies with nagin and blanco for there ineptness for a disater they knew would, not could, but would happen.

Exactly right, and he has the class not to criticize them by name, when it appears that the mayor of NO is in complete mental breakdown

#####

A Fox reporter inferred from the president's remarks that he was angry with Mike Chertoff.

I can just imagine the pre-storm conversations

FEMA: Mr Mayor do you have your emergency plan in place?

Mayor: Yes, we do.

FEMA: Have you issued an evacuation order?

Mayor: Uh, not yet.

FEMA: Do you have emergency generation capability for the city's pumps.

Mayor: Uh, I think so.

FEMA: Do you have food and water in a secure place if NO gets flooded?

Mayor: Flooded?

FEMA: Do you have emergency command and control and communication systems in place?

Mayor: Uh, ... begins cursing at FEMA and President Bush.

Half of this effort is perception. And the perception is that nobody knows what the hell they're doing.

BUMP!

I am also amazed at the posts I see here...I never thought the MSM could affect common sense and realism on FR.

I do know that people in New Orleans can't count.

Warnings to Evacuate: Saturday
Hurricane: Monday
Serious Flooding: Tuesday

But, last night, all these people have been waiting for five days. In NO, two is five. By tonight, they'll have been waiting 10 days.

LOL! I'm happy to read and participate in the grown up discussion but I certainly don't see that coming from you and haven't since you first came on this thread.

You're nothing but doom and gloom about the President, his presidency and effort in the assistance at the hurricane. A regular nattering nabob of negativity, that's you.

So yes, I 'll enjoy posting with rational mature people, who can resist being arm-chair critics. But apparently you just don't fit the bill.

Really, what would Rudy do?

He would be visible, on the scene. He would be speaking, from the scene, every hour on the hour. He would be managing, and he would be shaping the message that's sent out over the media.

Who's in charge? What single person is in charge of this thing?

OMG! The speech was worse than I thought. Terrible reaction to a massive disaster.

Yeah right. I guess he should have bit his lip, squeezed out some tears and told us all he feels our pain.

He is going to kick ass because from the city level on up, they all dropped the ball.

I want action, not flowery speeches right now.

Get Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson down there calm down the populace.

Those two disgraceful race-baiters would do nothing to calm the local populace. All they would do is deflect blame from the LA Democratic machine.

I've been a big Bush supporter, but who are the nitwits he's hired to run FEMA?

Can you give us YOUR PLAN so we can tell the NITWITS at FEMA what to do?

I wonder what is causing the difference?

The difference is that we knew this was coming. People could have listened to both their local officials and the President and evacuated and prepared for it. They decided not too. For some reason, some people think that is the fault of the President. Ridiculous, isn't it?

That situation at the Convention Center is criminal. Whoever is responsible for that happening needs to be prosecuted when this is over, and I don't care if it is the mayor, the National Guard commander, or the governor. You do not tell a bunch of poor and poorly educated people with little kids and babies in tow to go someplace and wait for a bus and then not bring the buses, or even get water for them once they get there! WTF!!! I am outraged by this and everyone should be. Anyone in that area yesterday should have immediately stopped whatever they were doing and go help these people.

"The assumption was that if the leader speaks, the magnatude of this crisis leads one to assume the speech will have some meat to it."

I'm not sure why this thread is up right now. Judging by your tagline, you're here to bash the president, or you'd know he only paused to give a few comments on his way to teh disaster areas. After which he'll speak more. DUH

Of course, most have downgraded the octane they purchase. Regular is the choice.

Add that to the people topping off their tanks and you have a sheeple made problem.

In large part, we are the problem.

The State and Local governments HAVE failed. If they're not careful there is going to be a cascading effect here that could end in a very ugly way for the federal government.

They over promised. Again. The politicians will continue to over promise and to glad-hand each other.

Maybe the people will figure out that they don't need as much government as they have. Would that be a bad thing?
