" I've been a big Bush supporter, but who are the nitwits he's hired to run FEMA?"

But don't forget...the Bush Administration created the Homeland Security dept which is over FEMA. Just another layer of government to screw up and they are screwing up BIG TIME!

IMHO and with all due respect, 9/11 is completely overshadowed by Katrina. In the amount of damage done, the number of people killed, the amount of time it will take to recover, etc.

Thus I can't help but compare President Bush's reaction to 9/11 vs his reaction to Katrina.

I wonder what is causing the difference?

Lots of questionable smells in the air around FR lately.

No kidding. The Bush bashers are out in full force this morning. Looks like they had an early morning meeting to get their talking points for the day!

He says something like that, the Repubs will lose the House and the Senate in 2006.

I'm not blaming Bush, I'm blaming the local government and state government for the unpreparedness. They are responsible for disaster plans.

Then declare martial law. Call up more National Guard troops. Do whatever. There was a time in this country when we actually got things done, not just talked about it. Stop pussyfooting around and clear that shithole out.

I disagree, I think the President should set up a command and control center near NO and manange the whole thing personally.

Angcat, it's not just "these people" who are growing uncomfortable with the President's handling of the situation. It's the whole damned country, many Republicans and conservatives included.

I'm not saying "he's finished." There is still time for him to gain control of the situation. But he needs to change his approach and change it quickly.

How? We can't sugarcoat this. I do not understand why this spech was given in that it really did not add anything. All this speech did was give the RATs more to scream about.

I get the impression that Bush and his advisors are so sweamped and the situation of violence in New Orleans so bad that too little thought was put into this speech.

It should not have been given. A better prepared specch should have been delivered.

I'm beginning to turn on this thing. If there is not some visible presence of the Guard and the Military today, and the sky is not filled with helicopters and the ground covered with buses, then one has to conclude that nobody is in charge.

Dude, just chill. The area affected is 90,000 square miles! There aren't enough helicopter or buses in the whole country to cover that much area at one time. I know things aren't happening as quickly as we'd all like, but it's time to be realistic about just how big this job is.

Granted nature caught everybody flatfooted. Granted it takes some time to organize relief efforts. However, every hour of delay, in providing relief, over 72 hours illustrates incompetence. As to the state and local officials simple visual inspection indicates that they are performing exactly as one would expect!

Let's see...handling of Iraq War, gasoline prices (before the hurricane, certainly now), wants to reform tax code but hasn't presented anything, Social Security (that seems to have faded)...

Don't get me wrong...I LIKE GWB, but he's not the best at taking "conceptions" and turning them into reality. He needs to surround himself with less yes men and more "do-ers"

My neighboor is one of the "empty suits". He was in Florida from July until October last year living out of an RV. He left for Louisiana on SUNDAY. He has three small children.

Save your crass broad generalizations for after we're finished counting the bodies, ok?

I am a huge Bush supporter but I really dont think he has stepped up to the plate quick enough on this one. Yes the democrat idiots in Louisiana have been no help before or after the Hurricane but Bush will end up taking a big fall if he does not get this situation under control TODAY. People are going to really start dropping like flies the next few days and those are images that will stick with the American people forever. 100 years from now people are not going to go "Who was New Orleans mayor then why didn't he do anything?" they will go "Who was the President then, why didn't he do anything?"

If the President blames a lack of preparedness, he had better be willing and able to respond to such criticisms, and he had better have a good justification for WHY the funding was cut. Because you KNOW the accusations will be there.

Do you think the President is suppose to babysit every person in every town and city in this country? He declared an emergency in the area before the storm hit. He told everyone to do what their local and state officials told them to do, which was get out and take enough food for 3 to 5 days. For whatever reason, some people didn't do either of these things. If they didn't have the money to get out, why didn't the state and local officials send buses in to get them out?

I'm really getting sick and tired of people blaming one person for everything bad that happens to them, including their lack of good decision making skills.

Go read Pukin Dog's latest rant - it may find your backbone.
Grow a new spine and try real hard not to focus on the way the President smiles.
