As I said earlier, 9/11 was a "military" attack and our military took over including the F-16 jets that flew over New York City. President Bush was slow and deliberate even during 9/11 -- didn't visit NYC immediately and had a national cathedral service which headed the nation in the right direction. Then he moved ahead with the Afganistan offensive. He planned carefully. I believe it was the local governments that rescued and attended to the people in NYC, not the Federal Govt. Mayor Guiliani did the local work -- clearly and decisively.

This natural disaster is of exponential proportions over 9/11. This is the size of 90,00 sq miles or, as someone posted, the size of Idaho. This is not a military issue -- eg. difference between CIA & FBI. Obviously, Pres Bush himself is not happy with the results of the help efforts so far but he is not blaming anybody. It was good to hear him thank people even when he must be as frustrated as anyone else. A true leader. Not criticizing others.

Then vote for anyone who gets good press, makes you feel good, comfortable, and most importantly, anyone who makes the NYT editorial board happy.

To say nothing of the FACT that the Louisiana National Guard is controlled by the GOVERNOR OF LOUISIANA.

Exactly right.

Our newbie friend needs to be armed with a few facts before playing the blame-game.

After the storm hit, the MSM was reporting from dry streets how New Orleans had, yet again, dodged a bullet. They were wrong. Maybe you shouldn't worry so much about what they say.

When it begins to take a toll?? LOL!

Where have you been for the past four and a half years??

The lies about the President told by the MSM has distorted the 'perception' of the President since he took office (actually before).

It's just that the majority of Americans know they are lies, and ignore them.

All but liberals.........and apparently you, who bow to the power of the media.

I'm sorry you're so weak, but I'm not. So I guess this conversation is over. All I can say is buck up, fella. (And enjoy the leadership of your media savvy Senators. :)

Good thing he doesn't pay attention to polls.

Good for him, I say.

"Why is it not obvious that the local leadership in these other areas was far superior to that of NOLA?"

Because people who prefer to criticize don't WANT it to be obvious. They're PURPOSELY fogging the scope of the entire disaster by concentrating on only one part of teh situation in NO. It's pretty telling that they ignore that rescuers and looters are being fired on.

As for FEMA, I doubt it ever occurred to them in their worst case scenario that they'd face house to house fighting in the streets of New Orleans just to evacuate survivors, feed, clothe and treat them. But that's just IMO. Nobody's pointed that out yet.

I agree that the difference here is the local authorities. The local authorities in nyc succeeded, the locals in NO failed.

That being said, there is no impression of preparedness. After 4 years of homeland security, there is no confidence.

That's got to change. Cell phones don't even work with consistency under ideal conditions.

There's got to be a better way to communicate.

Excellent post. Unfortunately, since it doesn't say the President is at fault for all those things you list, it won't get posted over there.

The people might. That's what I'm saying.

The most notable people I know who stand around talking to each other how right they are, all the while taking hits in their image, are the dems.

See how well it worked for them?

Clueless. Anyone who can't see that the President's leadership is compromised doesn't have clarity.

It's not weakness.

FR can be hopeless at times...
