Another thought: Don't the warm and fuzzy local TV people go on at odious lengths about putting something by in case of emergency, like some water or sandwiches? Great Ceasar's ghost, we get the lecture everytime we are scheduled to get more than an inch of snow.

I'd would post snipers in roofs and spotters on the ground in order to take down any thug brandishing a weapon.

They haven't thought that far ahead. It's not like these mutts are carrying a lot of MENSA cards or anything.

Shooting them dead has multiple benefits, both short and long term. The immediate benefit is that the innocent who just want some food and water won't be preyed upon by two legged vermin.

The long term benefit is that the looters won't be able to breed, or be around to influence any progeny they may have already sired or whelped.

Everybody wins, except the looters of course.

I agree. I'm sure the cops down there agree too. Except that they're outnumbered and out gunned. What are they supposed to do when surrounded by this? Call for backup?

In an urban environment, mass graves of "unprepared" human bodies are not especially sanitary, especially in the kind of soil (with a high water table) down in N.O. Also, it takes manpower to dig mass graves.

Okay, so dump 'em in a pile outside the city and burn 'em. Wouldn't need that much man power. A couple guys to drive a garbage truck around the city collecting bodies.

You're probably right about this -- once word gets out. Of course, communications aren't that great right now. "Shoot to kill looters" would have more impact if dramatic video was being shown on local television. But there's no local television to speak of. To some people, it's not really "real" unless they see it on television.

News can travel pretty fast by word of mouth. And nothing is more vivid than seeing someone getting shot with your own eyes.

So maybe we'd have to shoot a few hundred before word got out. Still, that's not a big mass grave or bon fire.

I have no problem with the hardcore looters being shot, if that's what it takes. There are thousands of people in N.O. still needing food, water, and medicine. They aren't going to get it until these criminals are stopped.

How exactly are you going to tell "hardcore" looters from non-hard core? In a chaotic situation, you can't be choosy. The only solution is to kill anyone looting. Period. No exceptions.

If you need food, wait for Fema, don't loot. Besides, they should have evacuated the city as they were ordered. If they're running out of food, it's their own damn fault.

It is Mayor of New Orleans who gave the go ahead to loot. Not once but several times.

When you tell people to "help themselves to what they need" - what do you expect is going to happen?

Just to clarify.

There are several FReepers who think it is perfectly acceptable to loot "specific items" that they need. - (ie. food, water, medicine)

What they fail to understand is that what one "needs" is a relative term.

Here's the situation, genius: You keep the 'thugs' from getting the arms at walmart in the first place by clamping down!

I've writing on this too many times today. Apologists like you don't see the consequences of your policies. More people are dying and starving and waiting to be rescued because the liberal government in NO and LA condoned looting. Now resources are being diverted to control the looting that should have been stopped or prevented days ago. As a consequence, people are dying. People are starving. And people are being killed or raped PRECISELY BECAUSE the cops failed to act when the situation was manageable.

Do you understand the common recommendation of taking care of small problems before they turn in to BIG problems?

We all have seen (On Fox News)the black Nawlins policeman leveling his shotgun at a loot-laden black (as if to say we shoot looters, which of course they don't)who then threw his loot into the gutter.
