A day laborer from Annandale has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a Fairfax County contractor who had hired him to work in a Chevy Chase home, police said yesterday.
The slaying occurred after the day laborer stole stereo equipment and jewelry from the house where they were working, court records say.
The issue of day laborers gathering informally to be hired by contractors has been contentious recently, particularly in Herndon, where the town government is trying to accommodate workers with a gathering place away from a 7-Eleven on Herndon's main street. Police said yesterday that other day laborers were crucial in helping police make an arrest in the slaying.
"I know there's been a lot of discussion about day laborers," said Lt. Bruce Guth, a Fairfax homicide division supervisor. "But the people down there were more than helpful and willing to do what they could do."
The smoldering body of Hak Bong Kim, 55, was discovered Aug. 15 in the woods near St. Michael's Catholic Church on Ravensworth Road in Annandale. The body was so badly burned that police initially could not tell whether it was that of a man or a woman. Kim's family had reported him missing the night before, so detectives were quickly able to obtain dental records and identify Kim.

What more can be said.
I thought it was "just here to do the work that no Americans want to do." /sarc
I know that crimes are committed by U.S. citizens all the time. The illegal immigrant does not have a lock on that trait. None the less, every crime that is committed by an illegal immigrant is a preventable crime.
This contractor should not be dead. Many people should not be dead. Many women should not have been raped. Many children should not have been molested. Many parents, spouses and children should not have to live their lives absent the presense of another dear family member.
I do not know the precise figures of all the crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Nobody does. What we do know is that a vast group of U.S. citizens and their families have been devistated when they shouldn't have been.
If our borders were enforced, many people would be alive today who aren't. Many women would not have been raped. Many kids wouldn't have to live their whole lives with the physical and mental scars due to abuse.
Is it really too much to ask, to demand that these crimes cease today? Is it really too much to ask that we seal our borders and expel those who do not belong here.
If it is, then it's too much to ask that the U.S. citizen not be exposed to this. So much for life, liberty and the persuit of happiness, well at least as it applies to the lowly expendable U.S. Citizen, no better or worse than cattle led to the slaughter.
Who was it the other day who said we malign the poor criminal invaders? Once-ler, if it wasn't you, I apologize - I'm not positive but someone was saying we call them criminals...
"Ye reap what ye sow" comes to mind.
Just a good hearted immigrant punishing a law breaking employer that the Feds won't punish.
once-ler did, as well as others.
We're importing savages. Wake up, Washington!!
The dead contractor was at fault. Under Mexican law, when the contractor discovered that this needy Mexican had appropriated some of his property, he was obligated to contact El Presidente Fox and begin a dialog to resolve the misunderstanding. Since a portion of everything a Mexican steals in the US belongs to Fox, El Presidente is anxious to negotiate these issue amicably. Of course, the Mexican must be released immediately and should go to the nearest Mexican consulate where he will be issued a complete new set of official identity documents in whatever name he chooses. And, gringo property owners, PLEASE LEARN THE DRILL!!
Day laborer....night stalker?

He broke the law to come here to work. He was rewarded by being given money by someone who was also breaking the law by hiring him. Why the hell should he obey any of our laws? Not doing so has worked just fine!
