28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

I dont think it is worth it. See our recent discussion (follow the repossesses) I thought I was misreading her but now I think she may be at fault.
The theme I heard on BOR for a bit and Savage all show today or when I tuned in from time to time was this argument exactly.
You know, these radio shows are just an invitation for every nut in the country to call in.
The kind that were there for work, or vacation, before they could unass the AO, and got stuck. People make decisions every day. Never justifies condemning them to rape, beating, or death. The morons seem to be those that never leave their comfort zone.
Ah, the good old days. I wish JohnRob would bring back that particular method of telling the join date.

Helicopters are using the levees, when possible, to pick up survivors. He may not be able to land, or even enter NO airspace. Coast Guard aircraft are up and the entire area is closed to general aviation. I
would bet there are some NG aircraft up also. If he tries to enter restricted airspace he is liable to be escorted to dry land, followed by the nearest jail cell.
Might be new radars (military), comms procedures, and patterns too. Have him take a look at this if he hasn't already tried it:

Which one are you listening to .. the one I just pulled up keeps beeping
Excellent links
Thank you!
AMEN!!
The State, the Mayor or LA Governor should have ordered along with the evacuation order that the police evacuate equipment and buses (for those not leaving) to high-ground as a safety measure for a couple of measures. NOT THE FEDS' FAULT OR the PRESIDENT's. Or was none of this done because these crooks knew the American people would step in and let them off the hook while they scramble to look good.
And I don't think YOU saw the cranky post to NN.
Most of our innner cities are chock full of garbage, a bunch of damn druggies, pimps and whores. The decent people left when warned, some unfortunate decent people were left behind, they need help. Quite frankly they are the only reason to re-enter NO right now. That and to take out the garbage.
Did anyone catch Anderson Cooper tear Mary Landrieu a new one tonight?
He asked her about the failure of past efforts to protect NO, especially after FEMA listed a hurricane hitting it as one of the three most likely disasters to occur in the U.S. She responded with a littany of thank you's for politicians for all they've done since the hurricane hit.
Anderson, angry almost to the breaking point told her something to the effect of "I don't know how you can stand here and thank politicians, do you have no clue what people are going through down here, today I saw a body being eaten by rats. Do you have no clue what the emotions are around here?"
She offered another lame politico response.
Woah I wasn't attacking her I KNOW how much she has been doing that's why I asked if she had gotten any sleep.
Why in the world should they have to find out information this way? I'd like to know what the local and state authorities have advised them of.
you know, it's harsh to say it, but if we are playing the blame game, we can lump in The President, The Govenor, the mayor, local authorities, FEMA...etc.
yet no one ever mentions the individuals responsibility to take reasonable precautions.
I know everyone says, "oh, but they are poor, so we can't expect them to behave in a reasonable manner"
but I don't buy that argument.
Being poor does not absolve you from common sense.
If we want to blame people, then we should blame ALL people that have created this situation. and yes, that includes the people who sat in their apartment with a bag of Doritos and a 2 liter of Pepsi knowing full well a hurricane was bearing down on them...i know it sounds kinda harsh, but few people should have even been in New Orleans to begin with
but in hindsight, we should wait on the blame game for a while.....it really doesn't matter now, we can only carry on from where we are. But I wish that the folks who are trying to blame this on Karl Rove would stop and think for a moment....
FEMA needs to watch more cable news.
I don't think FEMA was aware that the Superdome was a complete disaster because no one locally had bothered to tell them.
For such complete incompetence the penalty of tar, feathers, and a rail to rope them to while carrying them to the edge of the city and dumping them seems appropriate, to me at least.
Before I believe his characterization I'd love to know exactly how much water there was and how many people needed it. Didn't the people at the convention center find some juice and food inside or was that somewhere else?
