28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

O'rielly said earlier that Katrina killed 'Shitty'.
Maybe they can use the debris to raise the place above sea level. :)
She's in her own happy space, and I'm glad for her for that. But watching her gives me the heebie-jeebies.
the logistical apparatus is improving greatly - but the governor is (deliberately in my opinion) doing very little about the security situation - making FEMA and everyone elses job harder.
I have seen seasoned Police Officers lose it particularly when it is a child that is lost. This is too much for the average person to bear especially if they are watching it for hours at a time. You can see the warning signs, they need to rotate these guys before they have a permanent mental breakdown. I knew a great officer that had one too many scenes that he could not handle and I talked to him about taking time off for weeks. He did not take the time off, and ended his life with a shotgun. He was a 12 year veteran and he could not handle the daily onslaught any longer. If veteran PO's cannot handle it sometimes, we should not expect Shep to or any other civilian.
I like some of the local anchors. Maybe I'm prejudiced...
Are you picking up scanner audio on the net? Where? How?
Sorry, haven't been able to keep up, I am sure this is posted somewhere.
He needs to get his butt in a helicopter & help the rescuers then...
i just got back from class and this was the rumor of several liberal grad students....
they were explaining how this was all pre-planned for Bu$h and the evil oil companies...plus this sets the stage for the Warmongers to start sending "undesirables" like minorities and the poor people to the camps Bush built....they seriously believe this cr@p!
to make matters worse the liberal prof advised "you know, it's possible, I wouldn't put anything past Bush and Rove"....
sigh, it's just so d@mn sad, these are "educated" liberals
I told them they were definately insane if they even entertain any of this nonsense, but they are convinced I'm part of the conspiracy too, for what it's worth
How about looting drugs for their drug habit?
Because she's a media whore and democrat scumbag?
What do I win?
She started the Bush blame game Saturday when she could have been urging her constituents to leave. She also could have been using her influence with the mayor and governor. She chose not to.
They have water and MRE's. The reporter let this slip at the end. A Blackhawk helicopter dropped off a large load of bottled water and he mentioned that they had MRE's also.
Offer illegal aliens all the free building materials as long as they truck it south with them back to Mexico.it will be an improvement on their shanty towns and clean up the debris at the same time plus the freebee of having the illegals take themselves out of our country. That or burn it..
The top half, somewhere around the head.
Except for Britt, I like Britt.

I hope someone told blanco to shut her mouth and step aside
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the news coverage tonight. My heart goes out to the truely helpless, but alot of these folks need to get out of the victim mentality.
< We don't run from snipers in Iraq. >
Hey, Jesse. They're allowed to shoot the snipers in Iraq.
