28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

I'd use stronger language, but I don't want a time-out.

We need some Marine snipers to respond to that with .50-cal weaponry. Those "snipers" need a harsh, extreme-preducial lesson taught to them.

I thought she was touched by the outpouring of help offered by other countries.

I guess she has met a lot of the Heads of State of these countries. It choked her up. Just my opinion.

ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT

Read and ponder:

(From UK Telegraph, London):

""A young Briton trapped in New Orleans with his American girlfriend has issued an impassioned plea for help. Louisiana Superdome, where thousands are trapped Mark Graydon, 26, who is in the city's Superdome where thousands of refugees have gathered, told his father John that he feared for his life in the face of constant abuse from violent gangs. Mark borrowed a US military phone to call his father at home in Essex. "He told me he was very concerned about his life and his girlfriend'ssaid John Graydon, 56. "He said, 'Dad you have to get us out of here.' "That is the first time he has said that. He has been pretty brave until now. He is desperate. They are being abused and threatened. His girlfriend [Gretchen Heiserman] has been threatened with rape. "It's like a scene from Mad Max in there." Mr Graydon senior added that there were reports of bodies inside. Speaking to the Evening Standard, he said: "People are dying because of the lack of water, the intense heat and the lack of aid. "It's 100 degrees inside and he has not had any water since Wednesday night and no food for three days." Britons trapped in the New Orleans Superdome could be out within the next 24 hours. Marisa Haigh, a student from Guildford also trapped inside the Superdome, told her parents that US forces plan to bus them out of the city. Mrs Haigh, Marisa's stepmother, said Marisa had reported similar stories of mobs and violence.

Did you hear that guy with Gibson talking about why it took so long to get in there?

The closest place they could get was Alexandria, LA and then they had to be trucked 150 miles!

Uh. . but you see, you just don't understand. The hurricane didn't REALLY happen, you see. It is only a figment of the negative imagination. People are only imagining thirst and hunger. Those things are just fantasies of the cerebrum cerebellum cortex, which is, in itself, not really real. In fact, we are all figments ourselves. . nah, nah, nah, nah . . . just another day in the Twilight Zone.
