28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Someone had to do it...;)
I think net worth but I'm not even close to that either. Alot of people I know aren't. Where did he get those figures. I guess he forgot about us blue collar white folks.
Do I get to pick which reporter to smack?
that interview just proves to me that Blanco was under express orders from the DNC to do nothing regarding the security situation, because they knew it would hamper FEMAs recovery efforts, and that could be used against Bush.
The MSM propaganda makes no sense. If there really had been no water for four days, there would have been large numbers of casualties. The photos of the evacuees I've seen don't exactly look like they're starving, to say the least.
"According to the media, Bush has been a lame duck since Nov. 5, 2004. We didn't believe them then, let's not choose now to start."
They called him lameduck since the Dec 2000 Supreme Court decision but the President has a way of rising above all those labels. He's not going to go 'down' with any hearings. The NO mayor, and Gov Blanco have a lot to answer for about their so-called disaster planning. Sounds like FEMA didn't plan enough for a Cat 5 hurricane either, so this has to be corrected for the future.
Don't get down. I don't think the regular old American people are sitting around blaming the PResident for the situation in NO. From what I saw today here in Bham at a relief drop off place and at a Red Cross shelter shows me that folks are getting out, buying LOTS of items to send to the needy people. If any of these poor people can get this message - there is a lot of help coming your way.
Answer: "Possibly. It would depend on whether they shot at their rescuers."

That makes me wonder...Just where was Sylvia Browne and all those who claim to SEE things ahead? Huh? Just where were they? Why didn't they SEE this ahead of time if they're so smart!!
You get to pick two!
Her voice did quiver at times. Since she is from AL and her Dad was from LA I am sure she still has connections down there.
I just zoomed in on a bunch of the pictures from that opening - mostly of the bridge. It's in pieces from one side to the other.

Bush was, however, slow on the draw IMO to demonstrate leadership in the form of a bullhorn moment to rally the troops down there. It wouldn't have changed very much from a logistics standpoint but it could have helped motivate workers and changed the perception a bit.
If I were to list overall blame, Bush would so be so far down the list as to not be noticed. The locals have made this much worse than it needed to be.
