28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

This is what the Liberal media has been waiting for the entire Bush presidency.
You'll note that they'll report only the bad, just as they have been regarding Iraq.
You'll not see the many areas that ARE being supplied with food and water, etc.
You'll see the NO mayor and the LA governor position themselves in the next few days to blame the Feds. The media will lap that up.
They will conveniently forget that in the days before the hurricane hit, no mandatory evacutations were issued.
It, the Red Cross, is preferrentially mentioned as the place for donors to send money.
I didn't realize that it has a preferential relationship with the government. It's a quasi-gevernmental agency, in a similar mold as Underwriter's Laboratory. That is, mandatory, but not directly funded by tax revenue.
Okay. I appreciate that. So one person -- obviously with no ability to control the response to a manjor, national catastrophe -- is going to cause thousands to die from lack of food and water in the street and the federal government is going to stand by and watch it happen?
FOX is talking about who's to blame too.......
And our federal government's slow response to the dying individuals in New Orleans is nothing short of appalling.
These feds are out of touch with reality.

No I wouldn't But I guess you feel it's impressive to say that.

LA Congressman Rodney Alexander (R) on FNC now. Says the Governor has authorized a shoot to kill order for looters/gangsters.
If you are going to act within the constitution, the Feds can't override a governor just because they are being a jerk.
Or at least not simply. With Bush, with the mythology about him from the left, it would be a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.
I don't know how he could do it without provoking a constitutional crisis.
This is just, MHO, but this "shoot to kill" order is bogus.
It was also issued last night by the Governor, and supposedly the mayor called for matial law a few days ago.
If they're serious about "shoot to kill", why hasn't somebody been shot.
It's a PC thing. Nobody wants to be the first to "shoot" a thug for fear of causing a riot.
Rioting erupted in our city in the 90's because a white police officer shot a teenage black criminal. That's just the facts, no racial bias intended.
I predict that with the first "thug" shot, we'll start to see riots in NO.
Bout time, if it's true.
Coast Guard estimates 100 barges are run around in the Mississippi river right now..navigation channels have to be completely redrawn.
Okay. But would it really be un-Constitutional to do a mercy air drop of water for thousands of people dying in the street?
