The New Orleans police chief says 15-thousand people are trapped in the city's convention center. And he says some are being raped and beaten.
Chief Eddie Compass says displaced tourists are "walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."
Compass said he sent eight eleven-man teams into the convention center. But as soon as the first team arrived, he said, "they were beaten back within 30 feet of the entrance."
Earlier, the city's mayor issued a "desperate SOS" on behalf of the thousands who are stranded at the convention center.
He also gave the go-ahead for them to march across a bridge to a dry area of the city and look for whatever relief they could find.

I guess it ain't called the Big Easy for nothing! Sounds to me like no one has had control of that place for a LONG time!

Good to hear. I hope they let Delta Force loose to take out the predatory Vermin.

Just did. What do you REALLY think?

Maybe now the mass media experts (idiots) can understand why we just can't pull out of Iraq and everything will be hunky-dory. When the established order disappears, it takes a while to rebuild the infrastructure of civility and civilization. It doesn't just happen because op-ed writers think it ought to be so -- because they never have to account for all the irresponsible things they say.
Send the Helen Thomases and Paul Krugmans over to the Superdome to talk some sense into those people and restore order. For that matter, send them to Iraq.

You would think all the plasma TVs, playstations, dvd's, and whatever else these people stole would be keeping them occupied for some time.

Why is a government that ignores immigration law so intent of following this one?
To: Rosenkreutz
Yeah... what part of MANDATORY EVACUATION didn't they understand? How are people on welfare supposed to evacuate on 40 hours notice if they don't have cars, drivers licenses, or money to rent a car or buy a train, bus, or airplane ticket (as if there were ever enough available seats on public trnasportation even if they had the money)? The Superdome is the emergency evacuation center for those unable to physically leave the city.

There have been very few shooting incidents in NO. I know of one national guard shot, one police shot in the head, a report that looters of jewelry stores shot at police, some shots fired at one helicopter.
Yes, people in these neighborhoods have shot at rescue workers going back many decades. Happens to firemen all the time. Most of the crime we are hearing about is related to rape or robbery, and is being committed by African Americans, not by young Saudis.

Absolutely; a full military response is called for IMO!

I wonder if the folk who survived the recent Tsunami acted like those N.O. animals?! I bet you they were better behaved then our own educated citizens! What a disgrace!

I just wonder how many cops it would take to retake the superdome now that the keystone cops have dropped the ball?
I think they will have to use guardsmen with loaded magazines in their guns to retake that building.

In that same skit, Carlin's Trippy Hippy Dippy Weatherman also says:
"And now, as for downtown. Well, downtown is on fire right now."

It doesn't just happen because op-ed writers think it ought to be so -- because they never have to account for all the irresponsible things they say. Exactly....and the stupid gov. of LA this a.m. during a presser was still acting like the looters should stop......because she said so.
To: wideawake; Captain Kirk
It's up to the governor.
of course, she knows that if she orders troops into the city and they shoot and kill some of these "poor, desparate, misunderstood young men" then black voters will stay home next time she's up for reelection.
Golly! What a quandry the LA governor is in! Let the situation go to hell and be known as a BAD politician for NOT helping, or shoot the constituency for looting, raping, and beating people!
Choices....choices.... I bet she chooses NOT to call in any sufficient numbers of ANGs. Then she'll make sure the MSM spins this sufficiently so it doesn't "seem" as bad as it really is.
Yep...that's my bet.
What about you Kirk ole buddy? What do you suppose? C'mon man....spin it so we can all hear how this is GWB's fault. :-)

The whole article made no sense. Why would 8 eleven-person police teams allow themselves to be "beaten back"?
To: pnz1
"Wonder if any Navy SEALS are there? We are sending in Special Forces to aid with hurricane/flood relief. Unreal."
You don't need a seal team to deal with this. Ordinary cops will do the trick. Have them take the safety off their weapons and start fighting back. Then take an armored truck into the convention center and start deputizing some young men and set up a parameter and protect these folks. Concentrate the relief efforts at the major areas (ie Super Dome and this convention center) Even anarchists will need to eat sometime, and I don't see loot-able food lasting past the end of the week, and you can't eat a plasma TV.
