Whose fault was it? How do we fix it?

Reading the threads on FR lately has been discouraging.

It appears that everyone is searching for someone to blame. Thankfully, to many FReepers, the local officials are Democrats.

May I ask one question? Would you refuse aid to someone in need from the catastrophic hurricane and subsequent flooding to an Independent or a Democrat?

Is someone's political affiliation reason to question their intelligence regarding natural catastrophes? Or whether they deserve your financial assistance in this time of need?

I don't recall Christ saying anything about politics determining whether to assist people in need. I think this is a time for everyone to pull together. Please shut your eyes to a persons ethnicity, skin color, religion or political affiliations.

We are looking at Americans in need here, not illegal aliens. Yes, there is some looting going on but I do think the majority of people are just attempting to survive. The other ones will pay their dues in days to come, of that I'm certain.

So, if you have any ideas on how to make this recovery more efficient would you mind sharing your ideas? I will forward the entire thread to a few Congressmen for their perusal. Hopefully they will forward your ideas on to the officials in charge.

I am not willing to advocate this responsibility to the Mayor, Governor or the President.

Well, about 100,000 people in NOLA didn't have cars. So unless you mandate car ownership to live there, you need a plan to get them to higher ground. NOLA had no such plan, apparently - and I consider that to be a failing of the local and state governments.

Last night I read a post where a FReeper said she/he would not give a dime to the recovery efforts and much of the post reflected anti other political party...

But that is not a person in charge of the recovery efforts.
It is an angry arm charge politician who is inconsequential in the real world.

I recall watching the TV as people were driving out of town. Pickup trucks with empty beds, cars with only one or two people in them.

Is that how you would have driven out of town? Myself, I would have made sure that my older neighbors who didn't drive anymore were riding in one of my family vehicles, that they would have all of their needed medication with them, etc.

I know that I wouldn't have asked what they thought of the President before I offered them assistance.

If all us inconsequential people in the real world would send a $20 bill to the Salvcation Army I wouldn't be so concerned about the victims.

1. Separate the sheep from the goats.

2. Disburse the families of the sheep all over the Country to other counties, requiring each County in the U.S. to take their share of the New Orleans refugees and provide for them.

3. Take the goats and throw them in prison, try them for sedition and anarchy and execute them if found guilty.

4. Rebuild New Orleans further upstream where its ABOVE sea level.

5. Immediately put a permanent ban on American foreign aid of whatever nature from whatever source to people in trouble overseas. Nobody gave a damn about Americans in trouble - we should stop caring about other people.

6. Expel the U.N. and leave that organization. It is a nest of tyrants and enemies and two bit dictators strutting around as though they were legitimate rulers.

I am constantly amazed at the quality of people that Americans will vote for.

I would have especially thought this to be true in the south.

Yes it did, because yours wasn't the first on FR.

1,2, & 3 speak for themselves.

4. Rebuild New Orleans further upstream where its ABOVE sea level.

That wouldn't work because it would be a constant reminder of American failure.

5. Immediately put a permanent ban on American foreign aid of whatever nature from whatever source to people in trouble overseas. Nobody gave a damn about Americans in trouble - we should stop caring about other people.

Actually, Hugo Chaves the Communist in Venezuala has said he will supply heating oil at cost and he was the first to offer aid. Russia and the rest of them, China included have since got on the parade offering assistance.

6. Expel the U.N. and leave that organization. It is a nest of tyrants and enemies and two bit dictators strutting around as though they were legitimate rulers.

Send this to the White House every day, please.

Myself, I think we should dredge the harbors and rivers until we can rebuild NOLA 15 feet above sea level and start over. I would accept crews and dredges from any country in the world to do this. Any building that needs more than a 30% rebuild should be leveled and become part of the base soil.

I would build the worlds largest and most efficent deep water harbor on the Gulf Coast in place of the wharf that was damaged.

If it can be done, I think that's a good idea too.

But never again should we build an American city on a coastline, especially a southern coastline, where its under sealevel.

You are naive. The low-life DemocRATS have, and will continue to, politicize this. Only a fool would sit back and let them get away with it. Get real.

I know that people worry about looting in the wake of disaster. Mostly because homes and businesses have been left open and abandoned. But the scale we are seeing in N.O. I doubt anyone could have predicted that.
Maybe someone could have studied reactions in certain demographic areas in similar situations. Or they could have seen what happens where there has been rioting and looting when law enforcement is either absent or ordered to stand down. But I am not sure if that would have done any good. It still boils down to bad people behave badly and the good people must defend themselves against that.

No, but I wouldn't feel as sympathetic towards them as I do American citizens. Sneak across the border and you get dysentary from drinking dirty American water, go home and ask your doctors to cure you!

We mustn't use foreign firms to rebuild. Invest in America and use our own workers and companies to put New Orleans to rights.
