There have been some citizen-vs.-criminal standoffs, with one shopkeeper posting an ominous sign: "You loot, I shoot."
Isn't most of the stuff being "looted" already paid for by the fat insurance settlement the storeowner has probably already filed?

Ah, another "populist" who has little respect for the rule of law or private property.
Looters should be shot. Period.

Isn't most of the stuff being "looted" already paid for by the fat insurance settlement the storeowner has probably already filed?First, I highly doubt anyone in New Orleans has been busy filling out paperwork lately.
Second, why did you write "looted"?
Based on your remarks, I am guessing you not only think it's not really stealing on the part of the criminals, but it is also okay because you think the stuff is already paid for. Who cares if we stick it to the big fat insurance companies, right?
Very DU of you.

So damn what? In that case, the merchandise belongs to the insurance company, not the looters!!
To: LetsRok
That is just an excuse to steal items that have nothing to do with survival.

Oh, you mean *I'm* paying for these looted items in my next insurance bill? How generous of you. Grrr.

Give me your T.V. It's okay, your insurance will cover it.
What's that? Your insurance rates will skyrocket? Not my problem.

Is that a suggestion that the better thing to do is ignore the crime?
Sure, there are benefits to having insurance, but there is a dark underbelly too and you have just highlighted the problem - it can be used irresponsibly.
Building and rebuilding in areas that are likely to be destroyed on a regular basis is insane if YOU have to pay for it. But if somebody else has to pay, then what the hell.
Business owners need to responsibly protect their assets, and not just shrug their sholders and say the insurance will pay for it. /rant

How nice of the insurance companies to "buy" this stuff for the looters.

You've been on this forum for 5 years and you've learned nothing. What a waste.

No. Insurance adjusters are very particular about what they pay for. Only actual damages and losses. No guessing.
I am curious though. If it was, are you saying that that would excuse the looting? Would you be one of those loading up with loot if you were there?
