Warning As Mobs Get Bolder

NEW ORLEANS Mayor Ray Nagin ordered 1,500 police officers to leave their search-and-rescue mission last night and return to the streets to stop looting that has turned increasingly hostile as the city plunges deeper into chaos.
"They are starting to get closer to heavily populated areas hotels, hospitals and we're going to stop it right now," Nagin said.
The number of officers called off the search-and-rescue mission amounts to virtually the entire police force in New Orleans.
The out-of-control thievery had escalated while cops joined National Guardsmen in focusing on saving lives.
In some cases, New Orleans police officers took part in the looting. One cop was seen carting off a computer and a 27-inch flat-screen TV, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Earlier yesterday, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blan- co said she has asked the White House to send more people to help with evacuations and rescues, thereby freeing up National Guardsmen to stop looters.
The looting got worse as people brazenly ran- sacked stores for food, beer, clothing, appliances and guns.
There have been some citizen-vs.-criminal standoffs, with one shopkeeper posting an ominous sign: "You loot, I shoot."

Can't we all just loot a little?

The Kennedys are already ranting about it. Teddy bellyflopping off a boat in the Gulf would cause water to overflow most levees, but alas, he is under the protection of Greenpeace!

A graphic example of what the bad elements in society do to the good. That's 1500 police who could have been saving lives, which will now be lost.

My wife commented on this last night, and I used it to press the case that she needs to learn how to use our gun.

Caught a glimpse of O'Reilly's rerun around midnight, and his sage advice on the looters was "PROSECUTE 'EM"!
ROFL...sure, Bill! Business as usual...except that cop cars, paddywagons, police stations, holding cells, prisons and courts are ALL UNDER WATER! What a pompous jackass.

The guys on the ground are probably the postal employees.

Boy, they sure have some tough mailmen in Texas.LOL! Those bad boys on the ground must have been re-using stamps!

Ah, but we've got FReepers hereabouts whom are delighted to no end about the looting going on, and wax rhapsodic about the "hero's" committing said acts of theft in NO right now... Can you direct me to an example of such a post?

You're making excuses: The FIRST ones photographed looting were grabbing merchandise, clothes, electronics, shoes, radio's, TV's, and liquor/beer/drugs (drugstores), and anything portable.
They were NOT getting food and water bottles or soft drinks (until later.) The "morally correct" (truly needful) residences getting food and water/soft drinks were still holed up in FEAR of the initial flooding and looters roaming the streets.
More tragic: Every photo or radio report of a looter REDUCES BY THOUSANDS the number of people donating to the legitimate and moral people needing help; and reduces by MILLIONS the amount given by the rest of America!
The resentful thought naturally becomes (after hearing about looters running wild in a disaster area) "Why should "I" donate to people who are stealing things that I can't afford for my own family"?

Isn't most of the stuff being "looted" already paid for by the fat insurance settlement the storeowner has probably already filed?

Maybe they have DVD players with power, who knows.
All of this is kinda moot until it is determined what the cops took and at whose behest it was taken.

She will thank you for a thousand years if she is ever caught in a violent situation that endangers her life and the gun was there to maintain her survival. Guns are not bad, criminals are and we all have the right to defend our own lives.

They did not appear to be on a mercy mission,IMHO. The video I saw was on MSNBC, two female cops pushing a cart around looting shoes, the reporter asked what they were doing? "Watching for looters" The reporter said they are all over in here, look! The cop said "Yea, so are you" implying he could be arrested for being in the store! LOL. The reporter just shook his head and the cops continued to loot.

Examples? Taking food and water is something that we would all do in such a situation. Those are defensible. Has anyone on FR defended the other looting?
