President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Glad you are safe. It's great when FReepers check in so we can stop worrying about them.
Certainly there are probably lots of rumors flying around about stuff that happened.....that didn't actually happen.
We do have to be careful.
In any event, I have to take a break. Maybe take a nap....barely slept last night.
CNN is realy letting the full extent of liberalism on the soul and mind be shown for the world to see, aren't they?
if this doesn't motivate folks to make some basic prep., i don't know what will.
at the very least everyone should have a "boogie bag" in the trunk of their car.
for basics you just need jugs of water, a box of non-perishables( that don't need cookin or fancy prep.) and a walmart bag with some clothes and an old pair of shoes. even this barest of essentials can keep you alive, and it costs less than 20.00 bucks and takes just a few square feet of your trunk.
families should have a boogie bag prepared and in the garage. put spare clothes, footwear, hygiene and Toilet paper. A big old duffel bag hanging in the garage will suffice. it might take all of a hour this saturday to have this stuff ready.....
PTL you're safe!
He actually said
"These people are so poor and so black."
All together, now... "How black ARE they, Wolfie?"
Grew up in Slidell? I hope that any family and friends you have in the area are okay. And a reminder to ME to be aware and treat EVERYONE (well most everyone!) on these threads as people with a personal interest in the area that may very well have loved ones in danger.
Cafferty had a brilliant idea: drop sandwiches and water on the super dome. Guy likes any notariety. I permenantly switched to FOX>
But, as I said, if it wasn't just me, and I was in that kind of Lord of the Flies setting, well...
Glad you are back safe.
Good news dogbyte - thanks for the update
I am sure there is plenty of bad stuff that HAS HAPPEND that we don't know about yet. So long as the police aren't chasing their tail.
Smogger, what the heck are you smoking? Get real, Man!
I know a lot of parents would do it for their kids. Since I don't have any, I don't know either...
Have you sen anything on the levees all day...
Are you going to Zot him again, or will a time out do?
Anyone just hear Shep's report on Hannity? Where is the Ntl. Guard and the water, food, etc? WTF is going on?
