President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

This is what WILL happen in Los Angeles or San Francisco when the really BIG one hits... South Central LA is a tenderbox right now as it is because of tensions between blacks and hispanics and the Los Angeles Police Department.
Yes. That is indeed part of it. VIOLENT Rap music, worshipping of ghetto gangsta 'culture', disrespect of the law, hopeless liberal money programs to keep people enslaved, and things like COPS on TV on Saturday have showed us for YEARS that this could and would happen. I'm not really surprised in that regard.

"12:15 P.M. - Gov. Blanco's press conference has been postponed until 1 p.m."
ENOUGH with the press conferences, the hand wringing, and the whining!
MR. PRESIDENT,
SEND IN THE MILITARY NOW, SECURE THE AREA, AND SAVE AMERICAN LIVES!
This is the only solution, in my opinion.
Completely AGREE. I pray that pic on Drudge of the tank is REAL. They need to restore order before the anarchists start killing innocents who are only trying to KEEP staying alive.
Is that guy for real?
Good idea.
Has the Governor of LA requested the military to help in a law enforcement capacity? They are legally unable to help until she so mandates, is my udnerstanding.
I saw that also, but assumed from the tone of Shep's voice, and the remainder of his comments in other broadcast bits that he knows where they are "supposed" to go, but he isn't saying for "media" effect.
Well your gangbanger looters are taking pot shots at any @ all rescuers.......So no rescues/evacutions have taken place today.

12:38 P.M. - (AP): Two French Quarter hotels says federal officials have foiled their plans to hire buses to ferry guests to higher ground.
The general manager of the Astor Hotel at Astor Crowne Plaza says the hotels teamed to hire ten buses to carry some 500 guests.
But Peter Ambros says federal officials commandeered the buses, and told the guests to join thousands of other evacuees at the New Orleans convention center.
One man says he and others had paid $45 a seat for the buses, and that they were "totally stunned" when the buses never arrived. Another woman said the crowd had waited 14 hours for the buses. She says the idea of walking to the convention center scared her because of reports of looting.
The woman says it appears Louisiana officials have forgotten about tourists, and are just intent on getting their own residents out.
When I took piano lessons as a child, my first recital piece was "On the Levee" so I could learn syncopation.
What a biggoted comment. Perhaps you think that way, I think that if these people aren't stopped babies are going to die and more elderly are going to die and if that means to shoot the trouble-makers, then shoot them and save the innocents.
Go to the website. They even showed this site on CNN. He's been posting since this happened. Even has a webcam set up.
God good, here we go. And I'm sure the folks who listen to country music would all be cool, calm, and collected. Guess you've never been to a Hank williams Jr. concert...
How heavy would you think that be? 500 rounds isn't light.
I've never been sure which side I'm on in the "AQ has nukes here" vs "AQ doesn't have nukes" debate. I'm convinced now that if they had them this would be the time they would use them.
Not even close. No one riots like LA.
