That gangs were even fighting in the SuperDome. However, you have to figure those people wanted out once the hurricane had past. They will probably want in on the looting.
Millions of dollars of goods will be okay. Jewelry stores reportedly had looter snipers on the top while looters looted. The pictures show that not all of NO is under water. So they can go to those places too.
One can only hope they get taken down by disease or good ole' snake.
You are absolutely right.
You're basically complaining that nobody predicted that a hurricane-ravaged American city could turn into a war zone. I wouldn't have predicted it. Would you have?
Yes I would have predicted this, and so should have the authorities.
The other thing I am wondering...Are the reporters on location stranded there like everyone else? Or do they come in to do their reports and then get flown to safety?
Maybe, THEN they can continue rescues & evacuations ????
John Zarella is back in Atlanta and on the air now.
I agree - that's why we, as citizens, need to learn the proper lessons...
Those are the ultimate questions, aren't they? It's probably some of both. But, living in NO, knowing the risk that city was at for something like this, they should have been prepared for the absolute worse case scenario, just by virtue of where the city is located. I keep hearing "no one could have predicted the magnitude". That's BS IMO. A category 5 has ALWAYS been possible. They seem to have been just riding on luck, rather than brains.
Baton Rouge? Does anyone know what is going on in Baton Rouge this am? I am hearing reports of the evacuees (some) rioting/looting/shooting in different areas of town. They are shutting the town down - telling people to go home and stay inside.
the bad thing is that the wealthiest part of NO, the CBD and St Charles were least affected by water and are now being looted. I talked to a friend who is a BR cop who was sent to NO and he says looters are filling up the highrises and stealing anyhting that isnt bolted down. Computers, offic equipment, desks, chairs. He said it was like roaches scurrying everywhere. He also wondered where the majority of the NO cops are because they arent downtown
So the reporters drive out again at night and go somewhere nice to sleep?
Count on it. The politicos cover for each other.
Rioting in Baton Rouge? We need to just shoot these SOB's.
It's both. Scope and incompetence. But we haven't had many rehearsals for destruction of this scale.
I fear this will be the problem when the next big earthquake hits the SF Bay Area - no planning, everyone knew it was a possibility, just "not on my watch or in my lifetime".
Careful - there are conflicting reports of what's actually happening there. Let's not fuel speculation on something like that.
If you come across that article again, about the history of funding an improved levee system, would you ping me to it? Thank you.
Total area under disaster declaration is approximately 9,000 square miles.
