President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

9 people trapped in the Bell South Building but they have airconditioning and lights. They are scared that people will see this and head for them.
BUMP... us too.
ROFLMAO - you are nuts!
National Guard soldiers distribute food and water to residents in Gulfport.

The sad tragedy is that people who might want to help these people will start having seconds thoughts when they realize what they might be letting into their homes and cities.
I sure would think twice. You have no idea who/what you are exposing yourself to at this point.
We are getting a bird eye view of what has become of the ethics/morals in this country.
Awww, look at the mug on that kid.
I hope someone can get that dog and bring back to its owner - or at least kennel it 'til the owner can reclaim it.
Pennsylvania is sending 2500 National Guard troops. But they have to be called, they have to have time to get their stuff together and alert their employers, they have to go to the depots, they have to load the trucks, and then they have to drive 1000 miles to the Gulf Coast. That is not all going to happen in one or even two days, folks! FEMA has huge warehouses in Atlanta, but they have to have drivers for the trucks and the trucks have to be loaded. This takes time!
What I find less excusable is that apparently nobody has shown up from the Pensacola Naval Air Station or Eglin or Tyndall Air Force Bases. These are huge installations only a two-hour drive away from Gulfport. Surely there are personnel and supplies at these bases that could be useful. I can't believe the commanders of those bases do not have the authority to respond to emergencies in the vicinity without 27 orders going from the governors up to the President and down through the bowels of the Pentagon.
IMO Once they start comparing Texan school to the school in LA, they may not want to go home.
Thanks for the pictures and reminding us that there's more than New Orleans.
Last night when watching Fox, they were at the area where the helicopters were delivering stranded folks.
Right there were Salvation Army canteens, set up, handing out food.
They are always on the front lines.
God Bless that sweet smile!!!
If you say so, Hoss. But can we trust someone who uses a word like "overexaggerated"?
Are other states helping with the refuges? Apparently, this is becoming a problem because they will need homes for months.
ping to 3407
SO true and thank you for reminding me of that fact.
I'm thinking lets give the gangs the dome. And call in Janet Reno to take care of the situation.
I know I am bad.
that's just the standard pack of lies from the media. New Orleans and the state of LA is one of the most politically corrupt in the nation. where was the maintenance of the pumps and the levees for the last 50 years? did they have any disaster capabilities of their own? they just sit back, something like this happens, then they want to dump it all on the federal government.
And the terrorists are seeing just how ill prepared we are for a disaster of this magnitude. Multiply this by attacks on east coast and west coast at the same time.
Our own worst enemy may be our fellow citizens .
