President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
This cannot be...what next..
Great - the worst natural disaster in US history, and we need to send in Apaches instead of Coast Guard Choppers.
Bush needs to take over from the governor. The corrupt state political machine is clearly incapable of handling this situation. And the first order will be to place snipers and helicopters on the rooftops and shoot to kill at any person seen shooting at police or rescuers. There are thousands of dead, a few more dead of bullet wounds won't make a difference but will save lives of those waiting to be rescued.

Counts what you mean by downtown. Part of the CBD is in a hole. The Quarter is high. New Orleans East is all a hole. City Park area is high. Part of the the north city is in a hole, and part is fine. At Franklin
and Broad, a lot of the houses are very very built up, and the street would be flooded, but the houses might be mostly dry.
"
I have not downloaded any DEM's this has been moving too fast. The map I have shows three areas, listed at "greater than 8' deep" (meaning potential flood depth) all north of I-10, a long skinny one west of Metarie, a rectangle half on, half off the west side of City Park, and one more over by London Park. The rest shows 4' to 8', or 4' or less. That match what you have?
Hmmm....lake's normally at =1, so if my map is indexed to that...then right now I'd need to add 2' to all depths....note to self...there's just no substitute for a hi res DEM.
I just can't wrap my mind around this.....are the shooters not wanting people rescued? Makes absolutely no sense. The poor souls waiting to be saved are going to die because of this. Just pitiful.
Need all available MPs . . .
I'll lay odds that a fair number of them will remain once all the real refugees leave. They'll try to create their own personal fiefdoms, until they kill each other or become food for the gators...
They got two more type ones ordered. They are good teams. They need one in NO to handle the logistics problems. And they need someone to kick butt on the political front.
Why are they talking about shutting it down?
For the protection of the law-abiding survivors of the storm:
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle! Be our protection against the wickedness and the snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God, cast into Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Sadly, I'm not surprised by it. This gunfire is from guys who've got themselves some "turf" now, and are trying to keep people out of it. We've got a stereotypical 3rd-world element in NO right now.
Don't have a map handy. Some of it I know from living there, and I did look at elevation maps yesterday. I think some of them are out of date and padded, not taking into consideration recent subsidence.
Can someone explain the motive of people shooting at rescuers? I'm afraid I'm too thick to grasp it.
It's like a remake of "Lord of the Flies"
Could be a Lord of the Flies mentality.

I never thought I would say this, but I am angry almost to the point that I am thinking that we should liquidate these bastards.
I can't believe it, but I am having the very same thoughts. Sure would eliminate a lot of problems.
I am now thinking of these people as "Domestic Terrorists" and think they should be dealt with accordingly.

And it will keep on simmering and boiling, but see my post on that little girl. You can't forget the good souls.

I'm not forgetting the good ones, it's them I'm thinking about. Good chance a battle will be fought on their behalf, perhaps as we speak....and also...possibly....not....
No more calls, we have a winner. It would also give a primary candidate for the next election a wedge saying the mayor called for open season on black people.
if that were to happen, the media would then blame Bush for every thug that needs to be shot. the media will say "Bush orders desperate citzens shot". and add the racial component to that, forget it.
Yep. Y'all are right about it being another Mogadishu . So much for American exc exeptionalism.
