President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I've been to NO several times, twice just last year. We were there for New Years Eve and were planning on going back this Thanksgiving.

I love that city and its a great city. Like many places it has its bad and its good, but its good is VERY good.

When this is all over, and the city is back on its feet, my wife and I will be the first to start pouring money back into the city.

And there will be another riot at the Dome when those Port-o-potties get delivered.

50 of them just ain't near enough.

We love DC, Boston, NYC, Charleston, Savannah and several east coast islands. Favorites are DC and Charleston. Don't like cajun food so that was an other reason, naturally :-)

if martial law has been called for, why aren't any of the people being shot to control things?

Because that's not how martial law works.

Needless to say, Mardi Gras either won't happen this year, or will take on a new meaning.

You cannot prepare for evacuating and caring for roughly 1 million people for several months.

I think that the natural high ground (like the Vieux Carre, parts of the Gentilly ridge, and some of uptown) should be surrounded by lovely parklands and nature preserves, which are so good at soaking up excess water.

And if they want St. Bernard and Plaquemines parish to be more than a road down a levee sticking out into the gulf, they better start pumping river water into the wetlands to build up some land again. Actually, might be too late for Plaquemines.

"if martial law has been called for, why aren't any of the people being shot to control things?'

The police have limited ammo and are outnumbered? Fear of being tried for hate crimes?

Sorry about the mistake he is a Republican.

But he still spoke the truth.

I am sure that FR will keep the medias feet to the fire.

Thanks for the correction.

This thing has gotten my goat about the inefficiency of pathetic politicians.

Sen. Landrieu: There are thousands dead in NO.

As feared. The gov't of NO, and the gov't of LA have a lot to answer for. There's no reason that should ever have happened, even if the levees did break.

Lots of NO has acted like it's part of Haiti (or some other third world country) for years. Predatory, stupid and bad.
