President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
LOL! Thumbs up to anybody who tells a CNN drone to go *f* himself!
I am trying to find info on the Steamboat Natchez. They had put evacuees on it and radio caller said her son was on it and last she heard from him they were going to have to stop and "tie off somewhere due to the storm". She has not been able to reach him. Has anyone heard if it made it to safety?
My Dad and I had a heated discussion about this last night. He agrees with you. IMHO, until there are more Nat'l Guard in there the police should let the looters go. The chain of command in the PD has broken down. Officers on foot don't have communication w/ other officers (from my understanding anyway). And at this point there's nothing the looters could steal that's worth an officer's life. However, once the reinforcements have arrived, I think they should let 'em have it with both barrels.
Serious situation . . . calling for MP's . . . at dome . . . serious situation . . . 10 MP's needed ASAP . . .
"moderators"
Of course! A tip of the hat to the mods! Hip Hip!
Getting ugly . . . need armed MP's . . . armed . . .
Armed MP's!
Gonna be total disaster . . . 10 MP's against a panicked crowd . . .
And perhaps concerned about and needing to assist their own families.
Firetruck blocked due to high water. They also said they need as many people as they can get, preferably armed.
Trying to turn down the volume on my jumping to conclusions for morning exercise . . . but . . .
Subject about [to] start a riot at St Bernard
could mean a lot of things.
I HOPE it does NOT mean that subversive dark forces have been set up to make this even worse than it is for terror population manipulation reasons. I REALLY HOPE AND PRAY that is NOT what you overheard.
God have mercy on us.
Maybe.....but the fact media is now leaving NO for their own safety, tells you how bad things are really getting.
Thanks to all for the updates, we've been without tv or radio since Tuesday. Only periodic internet availability.
I had no idea it was so bad. Geeze!
Bulldog6 "We need more ARMED MP's..the situation is getting ugly"
Firetrucks having trouble getting to scene due to deep water..are trying alternate route.
Bulldog6 has a police dog..I heard it bark during transmission.
Never heard of any stories about any steamboats....nor the refugees being put on any boats that size......not once until your question.
Gonna have at least 2 simulaneous and separate riots . . .
What did it sound like to you?
Were they aware of a surveiled person deliberately getting ready to start a riot or what???
Salvation army is all around. As are the churches.
The focus is on the nightmare scene in NO. But you all would be heartened by seeing what I am seeing in BR. Incredible generosity, really. The Churches are so organized and there. There is an open heartedness that just dwarfs the thugs in NO.
Judging humanity by those thugs is very short sighted. And the refugees here, interviewed by local tv, are grateful and thanking God they are alive and thanking those bringing things to them.
Judging this scene is like looking at the high security bloc at a prison and thinking that it is representative of AMerica.
It's like another bad dream this morning - I slept in & just working on my first cup of coffee - & can't believe what I'm seeing & hearing on tv. Fox saying nurses held at gunpoint - Good God Almighty.
