President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I'll take that as confirmation that the link to the scanner is real.

Thanks.

I know...wasnt pinning it down on you. Everyone has been wetting themselves as soon as Mayor Nagin said the word "thousands". The national and foreign medias have splashed his quote all over the place and some freepers have been quoting him and then turning around and bashing him and calling him a "moron" who doesnt know what hes talking about. Yet now they take his word as gold.

Friend - New Orleans is DEAD.

Dead.

There are, however, live people from - Whoa! Surprise - New Orleans, who ought to be preserved in their alive state if at all possible.

Texas said come on to the Astrodome. Word got out. Living people - the ones we're currently concerned about - decided to take us up on it.

They made it. We're glad.

I honestly can't reduce it any further. The people you want to hate are still in New Orleans: looting, rioting, ripping tags off mattresses, pumping gas into unauthorized containers.

Hate them. Leave our refugees alone.

At the Lower Garden District Wal-Mart, among the items seen being loaded into police cars were dozens of T-shirts, DVDs, and dog food. But when law-enforcement officials went to get their goods, others - people of all ages and races - followed. "They just came and no one could stop them," said David Brown, 38, a Port of New Orleans employee. Link

"escort 250 buses"

Well - that's some good news (finally). I bet some of those people never thought the back seat of a Greyhound bus would look so good! (250 x 75 people = 18,750!!??) Although I'm guessing 250 GREYHOUNDS might be hard to come by. Perhaps school buses with those numbers (so perhaps 250x50 = 12,500). Actually - that's GREAT news.

I still believe that lawlessness in New Orleans is getting people killed, and that the stolen bus will only contribute to that. But we can disagree on it. Also, I hope you are wrong about New Orleans being dead. Though I fear you are right.

There is NO "hoax" regarding the shooting.

The "POLICE SCANNER IN NOLA" thread here at FR was deleted on a whim based on the rankest hearsay; even though I CLEARLY posted WHO set up and was hosting the scanner feed on this deleted thread.

Once again- http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20238

Read this thread very carefully and tell me these people are staging a "hoax".

I should even have an mp3 file of the stream saving as I was listening at the exact moment of the shooting report.

Kind of frustrating when a thread one has devoted the past few hours contributing to is deleted for no real reason, I posted both of these scanner forum links on the NOLA thread here and also WHO was on the scanner feed.

So once again:

PFISH:

"The scanner is monitoring several different talkgroups. (Troops A, B, F, and G, All national guard, red cross, louisiana hospital assosc., department of health and hospitals, and a few others). Most traffic is on LSP Troop B F1 and National Guard B - Admin. For the live stream, you have to statically edit a config file with the talkgroups you want to have text tags.. here is my file:

656, LSP Troop B F1
41264, Office of Public Health
20656, National Guard B - Admin
20688, National Guard B - Ops
20720, National Guard B - Security
3216, LSP Troop F F1
6800, LSP Statewide F1
43376, Louisiana Hospital Association
scanning,Scanning...

Also, the scanner is in West Monroe, Louisiana.. about an hour from shreveport and just below the Arkansas border. Alot of the people that fled new orleans came here. We have about 12 shelters set up."

PFISH a hoaxster?

Here's the thread that initiated the scanner feed, btw,

"They made it. We're glad."

And just think of the many, many more thousands that left BEFORE the storm. Where will they be in 3-4 months? (surely not still at the Holiday Inn in Memphis.) Friends, relatives and strangers will need to reach out for a long time.

And New Orleans IS dead. It will come back to life, but I fear the 3-4 months some people are talking about is wishful thinking.

Hoping for good news tomorrow for those stranded people in the Superdome. And prayers for the safety of the soldiers and police.

I went outside after that thread was pulled and called out to the bears in the woods. I was furious! I wasn't going to turn the 'puter back on but am now glad that I did. I couldn't believe that this could have been a hoax after all my years of listening to police scanners, this sounded as real as real can be. I still will wait for MSM to report about the soldier who was "shot" before I believe anything.

However, that being said, I do believe that the scanner was real, IMO. I've been called a fool before, so bring it on. LOL ;)

I think the Net that is up on Shoutcast is the State Police Command Net...

No tactical chatter, just internal State police chatter between command groups

I agree with you. People are not robots.

Many politically correct politicians say evacuate and then after the storm they can not come back to protect their property.

The damn Democrats have certainly not done anything to make the situation in New Orleans safe.

I'm just sick of Aaron Brown and his syrupy comments.

I don't know when he has stood up for his government and said that Bush is at least trying.

Something that the local and state politicians aren't doing in Louisiana.

I'm just sick of these has been local politicians blaming their ineptness on the lack of National Guard.

There's no lack of nothing.

Bush offered to send in the military but the Democrats refused saying they could handle the situation.

I would hate to live under the kind of stupid politicians that left wing Democrats produce.

As with most socialists it's never their fault.
